I have been told that the m-audio audiophile is a good choice for a sound card but i also saw the DiO 2448 card. It is much cheaper but is the sound quality less? Will it have a lot of backround noise on my recordings? I am confused on which one to get please let me know what you think! O yea...im not going for pro sound...i am 14 and just want a better recording set up that i can use with either a pod or a j-station. So if you have any info that can help me it would be appreciated!

I believe the main difference is that the Audiophile supports a 96khz sample rate while the DiO tops out at 48khz. This is not a huge deal unless you plan on recording at 96khz. This is a new level of recording quality and is not used by too many people yet, even at a pro level.

There may be other differences but that is probably the reason for the difference in price one. The DiO will probably be fine for your needs but you should see if anybody else knows of any more significant differences.

the Dio doesnt have analog inputs.......which menas you cant goe in with a signal from a preamp, mixer, etc unless it has digital outs.....

the J-Station would work with it...it has digital outs......

Delta makes very good cards...the best for their price.....

but at 14, isnt a cheapo Soundblaster good enough to learn with?.....

POD

Does the POD have digital out or is it analoge and would it be a big difference if i stuck a analoge out into a digital in?

The POD has stereo analog out, but the POD Pro has S/PDIF digital out.

And no, it would not work to stick an analog out into a digital in. It's not unlike trying to get your house electrical lines to carry water.

I'm (slowly) building my comp-based home-recording system... I can't afford a system like the Delta rig, or any of the other large rack-mount type sound cards (yet)... So I'm slapping in a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! model CT4760... From what I remember, it does support 24/96 recording, and would work for some basic recording... For now I'm going all low-budget... Got a cheap-O mic Pre (the Rolls mini-mic pre), gonna' score an instrument pre soon, and just gonna' use a small mixer possibly for the drums or whatnot... virtually no budget right now, but hey...

I guess I'm just tryin' to see if anyone has any complaints/advice with using this particular SB card... It's about all I can afford right now... Lemme know...

TF5, the SB Live only does 16/44 (maybe 48khz).

D'OH!!

Oh well... It'll have to suffice until i can get an M-audio or a terratec or something. *sigh* I hate my job.
