Hi, I dont play guitar, but dont be scared.

I am buying a five string electric violin, and I need
some advice. Is the POD a wise idea, or is there
something else in that price range that would
be better? I am looking for a heavy metal sound,
and I am on a tight budget, as the violin is
very expensive. Any ideas ? Cheers, David

No substitute for trying it out. Johnson J-stations cost a little less; each has its own "sound". A local music store should have both, and the pricing should match MF or come pretty close. They'll push to the "minimum allowable sale price" which means if they drop below, they don't get advertising contributions from the mfrs.

David,

I use the POD Pro in the studio, it's great! Should work on violin quite well, especially if you're looking for hard, edgier tones. (I personally don't find the POD works nearly as well on clean tones - compared to a well-mic'd amp - but its dirty tones are really quite good!)

Thanx Bruce and Treeline for the advice. I live in
Cleveland, Rock Capitol of the World. There are only
two real Music Stores here, and both of them suck,
therefore it is almost impossible for me to check out
gear properly. Advice from folks like you plays a huge part in my decision-making about gear.

Bruce, the Pod Pro is above my budget right now.
Any opinions on the POD 2.0?

I am also looking at the Korg AX1000G, and the Zoom
GFX4 and GFX8. Havent found info on the Johnson
yet, will look into it of course. Any help
is great. Cheers David

The big advantage of the Pro is it's use of the +4 gain structure and some extra I/O (including digital), but the sounds and amp simulations are the same between both models.
