I just used this thing as a mono drum overhead and it's the best sound I've ever coaxed from my drummer's kit. Anybody else love this mic?

(i was lookin at sony's mics online and that was the price of one of the C-48's)

Sony discontinued it...I bought mine locally for $800

Sometimes I really like my c-48 because its not as "forward" as my NT1. Other times I don't like it because it is more "flat" and honest. (cardiod mode comparison).

I got mine about 8-9 years ago while still manufactured by Sony. I had bought used in a local pro audio store for $200. The mic was noisey and the store had a good repair/customer satisfaction guarantee policy; the mic was returned to Sony for repair and Sony offered to replace with a new one at no charge rather than repair, so I got a new, at the time, $1200+ mic for $200 USD :p .

heck never realised they discontinued it - I only ever had the pleasure of recording through one once, very nice indeed. Have they replaced it with another model?

C-48? Droool droooool slobber drool!!!

The C-48 is the newer version of the C-38 I think.

I have 2 old C-38s from the old Wally Heider studio in San Francisco. One sounds really good, but the output is low. Is it normal for the output to be low? Anyway, your right. It sounds good on drums.

The other: Pppptttttthhhhh!!

Anyone know where I can get it/them repaired?

Phil
