Hey man, a few "opinionated" questions for ya..
1st, awhile back you mentioned that you got to use a Drawmer 1960 while tracking. Did you feel that this was a huge improvement, tonally, over the much cheaper Tube MP that you like? Or was it nowhere near worth that kind of cash?
Also, have you had the oppotunity to compare the Tube MP with the ART Tube Channel 259 or the ART Pro Channel?
And last, how is the MP on noise issues and headroom? Is it extremely colored, or mildly? Have you used it for drums, and if so, what were the results?

I would be interested to hear this too. I've been looking at getting a Tube MP as a little bit of "dirtiness" to complement my extremely clean-sounding DMP2 mic pre and also for a little bit of tube compression/clip protection for tracking vocals.

I found the Drawmer preamp to be a bit "thicker" sounding than the ART. Hard to explain, but it seemed to have a sort of fuller sound when I drove it hard. I used it on a bass track with the bass plugged directly in, on the bridge pickup, and the player picking back by the bridge. The Drawmer excelled on this sound. But I tried micing a Marshall cabinet with it and didn't like the sound as much as the ART. The ART just seemed to have a more colorful sound.

The Drawmers tube compressor is excellent when you need a more leveling amp effect going to tape. For vocals and acoustic guitars it is just downright killer sounding! Imagine 4-10dB of compresssion with NO tonal color!!! Meaning, the sound tonally stayed the same but the volume stayed in control. THAT is very usefull to me....

For the money, I think the ART is a totally worth it. If I had the extra money I would buy a Drawmer mostly for the compression. The preamp is decent, but I prefer the ART overall, even though on some things, the Drawmer preamp works better. Just not on enough things to buy it JUST for the preamp.
