Sonically matched yonically snatched!

Hey boys and girls,

Does anyone know if the fact that two mics are sonically matched makes them sound a hell of a lot better as a stereo pair? I have an AKG C1000s...So if I were to get another separate C1000s or a newer model (C1000S II) would it be useless stereo recording or is it not that noticable? Thanks!

Well depending on how consistent the fabrication methods are two microphones of the same model might in fact be matched pairs anyhow. Most of what you are paying for when you order the matched pair is for the additional testing to certify that they are matched.

I have a pair of V93m's that I use for XY micing of choirs and ensembles and maybe I was lucky, but I have had no problem with them that I could attribute to their not being a matched pair.

can't imagine why you would want two of those. I'll sell you mine if you want, if you get it and don't like it, deals off
