Do you know how to get that Sonic Youth terrible distortion?
What pedals do they use?

I've heard all kinds of different things about the gear they use. I've seen a slew of different marshall, fender, and mesa amps on their stage. And, no doubt, various boutique and mass produced pedals. Big help, right?

I did read recently that some of their tonal characteristics are the result of tuning unison strings (perhaps slightly out of tune for more of that pulsating sound) and other really odd tunings.

The guitar sounds on Titanium Expose are among my favorites.

I thought they used Big Muffs or something...
I knew about the tunings, in fact I have all of them listed and detailed if you want them...

I've heard pretty much the same as lazyboy. They use a bunch of different "unique" gear. A bunch of it got stolen at a gig a couple years back (in CA i think) along with their Uhaul. Apparently, THEY aren't even able to recreate some of the sounds they got from that stuff. Good luck.

Make that VERY ODD tunings... Never heard anyone else tuning their guitars DDGGDD. :confused: I've got an article about these tunings at home. VERY strange tunings... :rolleyes:
