Nakatira

That Norwegian Bastard
This is one of the first tracks I recorded.
its about 4 years old.

I was trying to make a prog tune.

I recorded this on a 166mhz pentium, turtle beach soundcard.
:D behringer euro something pre`s :D I used a Shure sm58 on vox, and a behringer dynamic on guitars and mandolin.
The drums, bass are programmed midi, the keybords stuff is played real time.
The flute is just fucked up :D ...

I`m thinking about re-recording this track as a few of my bandmates liked it.
So tell me what you think. :)

SONG FOR JETHRO...

I'm listening as I type...sounds really really cool. For the gear you were using, this doesn't half bad at all...Before the vocals came in, it reminded me of "Halo of Flies" by Alice Cooper...I'm not sure who the vocals remind me of, but it's someone from the 70's...This is very cool. You really have a nack of capturing the mood you're trying to create...I'm right back in the 70's...Awesome man. I'm not going to get technical because I'm enjoying this too much to care about that...You have everything from Gabriel's Genesis to Gentle Giant...WOW! I can't believe how fast 5 minutes went by, I was waiting for more. You are the man, man...Very very cool!!!

Really has a feel for the era. Very Tull like. Well done tune. Man, you got it.
Ed

Ha ha!!! When the electrics kick in you nailed that Aqualung sound... Really interesting electric guitar at 3:26.

The flute is crazy, man!!! My personal taste says less reverb on the vocs.

Good stuff, Nakatira - I think you should record this again too.

great piece of music.

incredibly well orchestrated, love all the changes...and flutes just rule. :D

I agree...re record this w some cool equipment. It sounds good now, could only get better.

Dogman; thanks for your input your always on the alert, and I`m happy to have mad your "accauintance" (that must wrong spelled) :D

and Rami; youre to kind, man I`ve heard some of youre stuff and you seriously rock.
I hope to learn a lot from you in the near future :)

again guys thanks

Nakatira, this rocks!! I am very impressed. It even has an early King Crimson/Krimson ethreal sound. Right before 4:00 I really love the lead guitar, all the way through to the mandolin w/guitar. This is very good. :)

Man I dig this...it's cool to hear someone even mention Tull!I dig the mandolin ,The heavy riffing definetly has a early tull feel to em',I like your vox also how did you do the flute?
Cool tune man...thanks for sharing it here!

Hi there, and thanks again for the replies.
I was very much into Tull at the time, hence the simularities and the name.
The flute is a tin flute "flagolet" and I hate it as I think I threw it into the wall a bit to much, as its a bit croocked, Either that ot Ì`m the worst flute palyer ever, besides the guy in Moody blues playing on The Isle of wight , anyway the flute was recorded through a sm58.

this was aslo the first time I used a mandolin, I was visiting my cousin and he had a mandolin collecting dust on a shelf, I just fiddeled around with trying to tune it up, and out of nowere came the riff.

he was happy to lend me the thing and voila a song was born. :)

thanks to everyone for replying. :)

By the way I`m still into Tull

here`s one for everyone;

the Norwegian meaning of the word Tull is; "Nonsense, Joke, bullshit bollocks". :D

I miss Barrymore Barlowe. His drumming on Bursting Out was what got me in to Tull in the first place.

A defenite faave of mine.
Barriemore really knew how to hit those toms, his tam-tom work still amazes me.
I just love he`s work on Thick as a brick, specially the part2, second side of the LP.
and must not forget his killer sound.

ps Minstrell in the gallery intro offer some really heavy drumming, spot on. :)

Is it stupid to reply second time... Hmm... I think its not... listening for third time and still it sounds great. Let It Be for any forum I still like this.

Awesome!!

I finally got to hear this one. Love it. Love it. Love it.

I'm a big Tull fan, so of course. I bet you could do it even better now.

It's really quite amazing what you've done with the mics you have (or did have at the time). The overall feel and sound is fantastic.

I'm a Nakatira fan for sure!!!!!

Thanks for your comments mate, really apreciate it.
I`m hoping to obtain a much better version on my next recording.
I`ve taken up the flute, wich should be much better sounding than the flagolet "tin flute".

Yeah those mics are history, I have loads of em` now.
condensors and dynamics.
I still use the sm58 a lot though.
But I use the Mxlv67 or sp b1 for vox now.

thanks for the comment.

I have to say that 'Passion Play' is my favourite Tull record. I'm probably the only person in the whole world who thinks so. There is some jaw-dropping stuff on that record.
