SOUND DIAGNOSIS

I have a new P4 2.4g puter. If I purchased Sonar 2.0XL, would I be able to use the older Cool Edit Pro 1.0 as a wave editor? I tried CEP 1.0 in the new puter and it functions normally. Would both applications work together as well as using a newer version of cool edit? Thanks! ~Lee

It should work like any other wave-editor in Sonar. No problems! :)

Moskus is correct.

I currently use that exact setup (gotta get around to updating Cool Edit), and it works well.

Thanks, Fellows!!! Sonar rocks I hear. Is that true? :)

Would CEP 1.0 work with the DEMO of Sonar 2.0 XL? Doesnt seem to show up in the "tools" drop down list. ~~~Lee

Hey James, thanks! I have been searching the archives to the very end of the earth, and have ended up with the scary thought of messing with my registry. Is that link you posted an easier "fix" to the problem? Thanks again, ~~~Lee

...Emh, sure it will work just fine. The "doesn't show in Tools menu" problem is not yours only. It can be solved here...

and you wanna read this thread... all the way to the bottom...

Hope it helps.

yes, I believe it should.... and in case you need more info, go search in this Cakewalk forum (use search button) and type

Tools Registry

as the keywords. I believe there's alot you'll find you may interest...

Bottom line is that CEP 1.0 WILL work in the tools menu of Sonar 2.0 XL, right? This registry shit scares the bejeesuz outta me for some reason. Do the folks at Cakewalk have phone support for their products like the folks at Syntrillium do, Jaymz??

Yup... go here...

(for general & sales only :( no tech support by phone.)
I never contact 'em by phone, nor emails. I found somehow this forum provide better and faster support... yet accurate. And you don't have to worry about the registry. It's verrrry easy. I think it's the "not so dangerous" part of the registry. Have a try... Look at those threads and posts... just like you, once they're not sure of what they do, but then again they do it easy and safe...

Dude, dude, dude !! Go back to the thread that James directed you to, scroll toward the bottom, find the link I put in there to the CWTools Edit and download the utility. It is absolutely fantastic! All you do is click the little thing to create a new tools manu entry, browse to the folder containing the exe file(in this case coolpro.exe) and save. That's it, you're done! I use it to open Sound Diver when I want to tweak my Line6 POD, and you could actually stick just about anything you want in there. Maybe you have a software guitar tuner. Just open that little utility, find the exe, and that's it. It shows up in the tools menu. Give it a try, and leave the registry editing alone! C-ya

Have a look...
Guitar Ed has found a better approach. Sounds like easier way & more safe.

I get an error message. It reads: Notepad:

Cannot find file c:// so on and so on

Do you want to creat a new folder.

WASSUP WIT DAT?? LOL!

Are you browsing for the cool edit exe? You probably have it in c:\Program Files\Cool Edit Pro\coolpro.exe. Can't tell you what the notepad thing is all about, but it sounds like you're not in the right folder. I wouldn't be creating any new folders. If you have a shortcut to cep on your desktop, right-click it and look at the properties to see exactly where you have it sittin'. Keep the faith, this little app is a real time-saver, unless you have to wade thruogh a heap of error messages!! Lemme know if you need further assistance.

OK OK OK ....:).......I have it in my notepad. I had to download by "saving target as". Go figga. Now what do I do? (if you don't mind)

Open it, and click on the plus sign (+). That will open your windows browser. Navigate to your Cool Edit folder and find the .exe file. Highlight it and click open. You'll see all the information displayed there now. See where it says 'Displayed Tools Menu Text'? That's where you give the description you want to see in the tools menu. I think it will just say cool edit pro, but you can make it anything you want. Status bar Text should say Launch Cool Edit, Path to application should have coolpro.exe, and if you want to put the helpfile in there, just do the same thing you did before, but browse for coolpro.hlp instead of exe. I don't know why you would put the helpfile in there, though. After all that, just click the little floppy icon to save it to your registry. Start Sonar, open an audio track, highlight a little chunk of a wave file, click 'tools'>cool edit, and watch the durn thing open up!! That should do it. After you get it going, store that little utility in a safe place, cuz it will come in handy a bunch!! Good luck, and as always, if you need more, gimme a holler.

One more thing. Make sure you have the type set to wave editor. You can use the generic setting to open other types of programs.
