Sonar vs HomeStudio ?

Ok, so i've used the sonar demo and am impressed...even a newbie like me could figure it out. I've also checked out PG Musics Power tracks product. Not bad, weak interfaces, but functionally seems ok?

Only thing is, I have so much stuff to buy, just starting out and all. Has anyone used their Homestudio product? Its way cheaper......what are the main differences? Does it suck? My needs are pretty simple - basic recording, mixing, effects. Also do lots of composing and arranging, but will use something else (like Noteworthy) for this.

thanks man...... i can however see myself recording multiple tracks in the nearish future....guess that means sonar it is!

thanks :)

Unlimited tracks in HS2002 also...only the number of attachable DX plugins is limited (10)

The issue is the ability to record multiple tracks SIMULTANEOUSLY. (Which is also limited by your sound card as well.)

Homo Studio (sorry Pedullist :) ) can record an unlimted number of tracks, but can only record a max of two at one time.

Sonar has no limitation on simultaneous tracks, except the number of inputs provided by your sound card. If your sound card only has a single stereo input (e.g. Soundblaster), you will still be limited to two tracks at one time.

There are many happy Homo Studio users out there, but All Cool Kids Use Sonar. :D

Hey, HS2002 is Sonar:mad: It just hasn't had its Viagra pill:D

But seriously, HS2002 is great and as Dachay says, you can have unlimited tracks recorded ...but only one stereo pair at a time...or two monos. Which is fine for most folk.

effects aren't as good

I too was duly impressed by the Sonar demo and, after going out and buying HS2002, I was disappointed by the effects. I think Sonar has Fx2 effects, or something like that, where HS2002 doesn't. The control panels for the out-of-the-box effects in HS2002 are lame compared to those in Sonar.

Since I'm new to computer recording (Tascam 4-track cassette and Yamaha 4-track minidisc experience), I figured I'd kick the tires on the cheap one to see if I really need to spend the money on the upgrade. So far, aside from the effects disappointment, I'm digging it.

Well, you can buy the effects package and still come out cheaper than buying the full blown Sonar! Don't let the lack of effects deter you. I own both programs (Sonar & Home Studio 2002) but I have a ton of aftermarket effects besides the Cakewalk brand effects.

DWBass: why the hell did you buy both HS2002 andSONAR?![/b]

The FX2 package isn't that good, IMO. I decided to buy HS2002 and buy every plugin individually. The fact that a delay of some company is awesome doesn't mean the compressor is awesome too. By doing this, you end up spending more money for sure but the results are much better....

I'm doing pretty extensive recordings with HS2002 (ask James, he almost didn't believe me) and I haven't missed a thing (yet).

I've worked in both Home Studio and Sonar for a long time and I don't find a difference between the two except for the effects. If you are not serious about professional add ons, go for Hoem Studio 2002. Wonderful software, looks, acts and runs like Sonar.

Most people eventually migrate to better fx software. But the bundled packages are okay as a starting point.

Unless you really need to track more than two inputs at a time, HS2002 is a great value recording package.:)

thanks very much - think i will go for sonar, its likely i will need multiple simultaneous track recording in the near future.....

I'm really enjoying the sonar demo - great product!

Very funny!! No, it is a legitimate install cd. I don't used cracked copies of any software.

But its a copy you haven't paid for? A copy you "share" with a friend?
I am sorry but that is just as bad:( Members on this BBS are very sensitive to "shareware" jockeys, especially that most of the regulars (if not all) have paid out their hard earned $$$ for the software.

Consider that as a demo, then you'll have to buy the original for your self if you decided to use it any further. Cakewalk worked hard to support us, we should support 'em back at least by buying the original copy.

Don't judge without knowing all the facts! I have purchased my own copy (reg. in my own name) if you guys really need to know! As I have purchased many Cakewalk products over the years (CWPA7, CWPA8, CWPA9, CWHS, CWHS2002 in addition to several loops cd's and FX1, FX2) Do I also need to post my life history here too? Don't be so quick to be judgemental (i know there are some hypocrites here)!

Thank you.
