I would like to ask if anyone, here, is successfully using Sonar with one of the newer computer systems incorporating Vista?

The reason that I ask is because my brother just recently purchased a Song Vaio laptop, which has Vista Home Premium on it. His Sonar program refuses to work properly, on it, but he had no problems whatsoever marrying Sonar to his former desktop computer w/XP. He really needs to get some musical things done -right away, and I wondered if anyone could shed some light on just what might be wrong.

Any info, or help, would be much appreciated.

Don't have sonar, but I did run into trouble, trying to run my firewire interface on Vista... a driver problem. I'm giving Vista a year before I try again.

He needs to update to version 6 for it to work in Vista. Why would someone expect 5 year old software to work in a brand new OS?

Oh, and unless he has one of a handfull of interfaces, the drivers probably wont work right in Vista either.

Cake just got Sonar to “Works with Windows Vista” guidelines with the Sonar 6.2 update, so I would imagine V4 could encounter issues. You might want to try the Cake forums, but I wouldn't hold out to much hope. I saw one post where someone had V5 running in Vista, but they didn't elaborate on it any.

Thanks. It turned out that my brother had to take that laptop back. None of his pertinent programs would function on that unit - and neither would his M-Audio Midi controller. It was a HUGE mess, with that setup, and Circuit City had so many of those 'Vista' embellished laptops returned, that it wasn't funny. The store had just one display model laptop left, which included the XP OS, and that is what my brother traded for. The only downside was that it had a 13" screen - as opposed to the 15" display on the former model. But he has the option to hook an external monitor up to it (which he plans to), so that is no real big problem. The bottom line is that everything is working with it, which means more than anything else.

now I wouldnt say that... more like

Vista = kid who rode the short bus and wore a bike helmet everywhere

It was brash. But i was also at the bottom of my 4th guinness.

My apologies.

A little off-topic, but I tried getting Home Studio 2004 to work with Vista today and it just doesn't seem to cut it. Maybe its my SB Audigy card, but it worked fine with XP for so long....so much for "100% backwards compatible" - Thanks, Microsoft.

Here read this.

It made me see what Vista does to your PC, so you can expect to see what faults your going to have. Also on this site is a vista readiness test for your computron.

Check it.

It might make you understand a bit better whats going on.
