Sonar & Soft Synth

I'm using Sonar 2XL and have been trying to learn tutorial 9 "Using Soft Synths" The tutorial uses the Edirol VSC. I made it through the tutorial until I hit play. There is no sound whatsoever.
When I did the tutorial8 "drum maps" everything worked good. I do get sound when playing .wavs, or mp3's.
Can anyone help with this problem?

Did you check the Virtual Sound Canvas Help system?

It says in the Troubleshooting section:

The Sound is Too Loud/The Sound is Too Faint/There is No Sound
  • Select the Performance in the Settings window and check the Volume.
  • Check the VSC panel's MASTER VOLUME value.
    If the Part Level Meters on the VSC panel are NOT moving, it may be because MIDI messages are not being input correctly by VSC. Check the following settings in the host application.
    - Confirm that VSC is selected as the output destination for the MIDI track being performed.
    - Check the MIDI channel, volume, and mute settings for the MIDI track being performed.
  • If the VSC panel's MASTER LEVEL meter is moving, then likely it is due to a problem with the audio output settings. Check the following.
    -Check the host application's audio volume. Also confirm that the audio device being used has been properly selected.
    -Check the volume and other required settings for your audio device.
    -Check the connections and volume settings for you audio system (amp, speakers, etc.).
  • When heavy loads are placed on computing power, the host application may stop audio processing, which can result in no sound. Refer to the relevant items in "The Sound is Cut Off/The Performance's Tempo is Disrupted/The Performance Stops While in Progress."
  • In order to use multi-out, select the Output Assign page in the Settings window, and check that the output destination of each part is set correctly. Also, make sure that the host application you specified as the output destination is set to receive these outputs.

    - If you are not sure whether your host application supports multi-out, try checking "No use multiple outputs" in the Output Assign page of the Settings window.

If that doesn't help, come on back...
 
Good advice as usual from AlChuck.

To simplify, check the Out settings for you midi track(s). They should be set to Edirol VSC.

Then check the Out setting for the audio track the VSC is patched to. It should be set to the proper output pair on your sound card.

If that don't do it, then follow some of the other steps AlChuck cited in the help file (volume levels in the VSC, channel assignments, etc.)
