I've searched the net and have been reading for weeks, I'm here for help.

I have Sonar 4 producer with an Echo Layla 3G interface...

I want to try my hand at midi, but can't even get my feet wet.

Right now, I'm trying to do drums.

All I have currently, is an old Yamaha synth to trigger the midi data and drum sounds in wav format.
I have TTS-1 in Sonar inserted as my softsynth.

I can hear and paint notes in the piano roll but when I use the keyboard, I don't get a response. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

I tried starting a new project with out the board, but when I try to play back what I painted in, it only plays for a second, and then stops.

What could my problem be?

First I guess I should say - this should be posted in the Cakewalk forum.

Anyway do you have a midi input signal?
I didn't know you can use .wav files in TTS.
You should check in the options-->project-->sync--->make sure you tick what you need in the top menu-->depending on the midi device you might have to use the bottom options.--->IF you have an outboard sequencer and you need to control Sonar-goto the Clock options and use the midi sync option as the clock. Also you might have to set your midi input device for your soundcard in Sonar-->Options---->Midi
If all this is working then you need to use Cyclone for .wav files or change the channel on the TTS Track to Channel 10--> Default midi Drum Channel.

Oh and it helps to have a manual or book for reference.
