Sonar, Delta 1010, SBlive - Can't we all just get along?

Got my Delta 1010 this weekend (applause)to work with Sonar. I currently have an SBlive on the system and want to keep it (an extra midi port, monitoring to my stereo, two extra inputs, etc.).
I went to a Cakewalk user group last week and they had this setup working (SBlive, 1010, Win2k, 1Ghz Intel - same as me). I hooked up the Delta and loaded the drivers. No problems in Device Manager. Sonar showed all inputs and outputs to both cards. Midiman mixer showed up in Control Panel as promised. I armed tracks in Sonar, hooked up to the 1010, but no sound and no levels showing in the Delta mixer.

On further investigation, I noticed that the Delta and the SBlive, along with my video card and raid controller all reside on IRQ 11. I think this is the problem, but I don't know how to fix it. I intend to get in touch with Cakewalk as they clearly were able to make this happen, but who knows when I'll get an answer. Any ideas?

It pretty much boils down to swapping PCI slots between cards.

Are yopu running Win XP or 2000? Be sure to read up on the optimizing tips, especially the one about ACPI.

That should still work, since Windows 2000 knows how to share IRQs. So even if it's not the most efficient arrangement, you should still at least get sound. A friend of mine has a Dell 1.4 GHz running Windows 2000, with a Delta 1010 and an SB Live, and it all works fine.

AlChuck, I'm using Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2. I don't understand how ACPI figures into this, but I've heard it brought up a lot.

Ethan, it's actually good to hear that the setup can work. I'm going to pull the Sound Blaster for now just to make sure the Delta is not DOA. But first, like AlChuck said, I think I'll play around with the slots as that was required just to get the SB to work by itself...

I AM THE MAN!!!!!

......well, sort of. I think I had it all working to begin with. I started out this evening by moving the Delta PCI card to another slot. Got the New Hardware Found screen again and restarted the PC. Booted Sonar. No sound from the 1010. Duh. I didn't have Sonar audio options configured properly, or the Winows mixer, or the M-Audio mixer. Played around a bit with them and I have sound now, baby! I'm recording live drums this Thursday night! Woohoo!!

Here's the response I got from Cakewalk support...

Each sound and video card should be on its own IRQ number. Although ACPI is designed to allow easy integration of power management and PCI Bus resources, we have seen numerous cases where disabling ACPI has improved performance and eliminated resource conflicts. Please note that you will need to have all of your device drivers present when doing this, as Windows will re-enumerate your hardware and prompt you for the drivers. The following lists steps to remove ACPI from your system.
1. Open Device Manager from Control Panel - System -Hardware -Device Manager
2. Go to Computer tab and select the "ACPI enabled PC" option that you have there
a. Select Properties
b. Go to Driver tab
c. Press Update Driver...
3. "Welcome to Upgrade Device Driver" wizard opens up, press next to the first question. From the next page select "Display a list of the known
drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver"
4. Select "Show all hardware of this device class"
5. From "(Standard computers)" select "Standard PC"
6. After the new driver has been installed press reboot
7. After reboot Windows 2000 redetects all of your hardware and installs device drivers again for them.
8. After reinstalling device drivers open Device Manager once again and open Computer tab and look if you have two "Standard PC" devices there. If you do have a look at the properties of both "Standard PC" devices and remove the one which has "driver not installed" in the Device Status screen
9. You are done and ACPI is no longer in use with Windows 2000


In my last post I said all seems to be working. That's true, but I still have my SBlive, Delta 1010 and video card sharing IRQ11. However, it seems the above steps will optimize resources. Anyone done this?
