I'm curious about why Cakewalk does this and the intent here is not a pissing contest against Cake, I think they are a great company.
Why on earth does Cakewalk assign only odd numbers for input and output routing when using ASIO drivers? The two other DAW app's I use, Reaper and Cubase don't do this and it's much less confusing.
