Sonar and Delta 1010 configuration problem

I'm completely new to Home PC recording, and I just purchased the Delta 1010 and Cakewalk Sonar.

My setup so far is simply my guitar going into a Line 6 POD into the Delta input to Sonar. I'm using headphones connected to my output on the delta 1010 for monitoring (for now).

My problem seems to be related to a latency issue. There is probably a second or so delay from me playing my guitar to Sonar receiving the sound. I've searched through the board and tried different things to get the output in realtime, but I simply came to the conclusion my soundcard cannot handle these conversions in realtime. I probably need a better soundcard, after all my computer is more than a week old and is considered a dinosaur.

I can deal with the delay if I have to, but the thing that is driving me batty is, how to insert tracks over my recordings with this delay.

For instance I record my guitar track, sounds great everything is fine. I then want to throw in a drum track, but with that second delay, my drum track is off from the guitar track. Now I know I can edit the tracks and rip my hair trying to get the timing right, but I am generally a lazy person and I feel after all the money I spent, I should not have to go through so much aggrevation, after all I'm a musician not a rocket scientist.

So basically in a nutshell, I'm looking for a good way of recording my music without having to deal with latency issues. I'm guessing theirs probably a better way I can monitor the output so I can at least hear everything realtime, I can care less if I record in realtime. As long as everything lines up I'm happy.

First try disabling Input Monitoring (Options -> Audio -> Input Monitoring).

If that doesn't fix it, then open up your Delta Mixer (the software program that came with your sound card). Go to the section labeled Patch Bay (or something like that).

If your guitar is plugged into ther Delta's 1 or 2 Inputs, then change the setting for that pair from Wave Out 1/2 to H/W Out X/X (where X/X is the output connections where your headphones are connected). If you're plugged into 3/4 then do that for 3/4 rather than 1/2.

Let us know if any of that works.

Thanks for the response...

I have tried disabling Input Monitoring, a couple of days ago..That seemed to help me somewhat in the sense that I was able to hear my guitar while I was playing it, instead of hearing my guitar with a second or so delay. But with that set alone, the timing was still off.

I'll try changing the Delta settings. I'm kind of confused about this setting. I keep hearing that latency is not an issue when setting the patch bay setting to "Monitor Mixer", but I'll try the setting you recommended.

I'll let you know how I make out.

I think my computer is possesed....I get home, start everything up..Everything worked with no problem. Recorded 8 tracks and none of them were out of sync.

The only difference was I added a mixing board and a noise filter, but when I took them out everything still recorded properly. I don't know maybe I had some wires screwed up or something.
