hey guys, i cant figure out why my sonar is doing this.

when im working with my projects, mainly just adjusting knobs in effects and playing back, the project stops working. after playback, once i try hitting the play button again to start listening again it just doesnt play. It looks like its about to play for half a seccond then stops it self. The only way ive been able to fix this in the past is by copying and pasting all the tracks into a new project and doing the effects again which is a real pain. Does anyone know a way i could stop this from hapening? thanks

Adjust your audio buffers to a safer setting. If during recording, you monitor through sonar you will probably getting higher latency. But the program will be more secure

its not that, i have tried that before with no sucess. Its a problem witht he project. even if im just listening to it, doing no editing at all it will wplay a few times then for no reason at all stop playing, and will never play again untill i move all the tracks into a new project and redo everyhting all over again.

Could you tell us your PC spec? Audio card? Latency value? etc?

its a p4 1.6 (soon to be upgraded) with 512 mb of ddr ram (soon to be a gig) with a delta 66 soundcard. At the moment im using ASIO, and i adjust the buffers in the soundcard controll pannel to anyhting above 512 usually.

i dobut its my soundcard or anything, maby a bad install of sonar or somthing?

When I said to adjust the buffers, I meant the ones in sonar, not the ones on the 66.

Go in to the options menu, select audio, and its at the bottom of that window. The delta buffers won't affect your problem at all, but the ones in Sonar will make a huge difference.

When I started out, I had the identical computer and soundcard, and the same problem at times, and that buffer setting cleaned it up.

ive adjusted those ones too with no luck. This was using WDM drivers instead of ASIO drivers. I usually use wdm. Its not dropping out or anything, its like its not even trying to play.

If your using WDM drivers, try running the Wave Profiler and leave the setting at what it comes back with. Also, you aren't using any other sound applications in the back ground are you? That can stop it from playing.

ive done the waveprofiler suggestion as well. Im not running any audio programs in the background.

Im quite sure its a problem with the project rather then the audio software or hardware. Is there any project setting that could cause it to stop playing? Maby im acidently hitting a key or button thats stopping it from playing?

Hmmm, I've never had one. When did the first time tou see the problem? I mean did you install WinXP Service pack or something recently? Most of Sonar's problem end by updating (or rolling back for that matter) VGA card's driver. I do still have some problem regarding VGA card myself. If you have another different PC, then try to open the project there and see the result. How about that?
