Sonar 3 has arrived...

I also have the lexicon Core2. they were basically giving them away. I found out why. Flat out won't work with some AMD computers. Some people don't have that problem. I wasn't one of the lucky ones. that led me into getting my first Intel machine. It worked great with that machine. Although I was a logic user then.
When Logic jumped ship, and left the PC, I took it as an oportunity to try sonar. I also decided to go with XP, and M-audio .

Can you upload a 20 second sample of both those mixes (one with 2.2 and one with ver.3) as a 16/44 wave file anywhere?

Preferrably, as a 24/48, but 24/44 would be fine too.

I would like to hear this.

Ed

P.S. I have a pretty fast DSL connection, so actually, a full song as a .wav file wouldn't be that big of a deal to download either.

yeah, i'd like to hear the difference too. I just upgraded last night and didn't really hear any difference at all. It looks cooler than version 2 and has a bunch more plugins but that's about all i think i got for $179.

i guess it also comes with the vst wrapper that i just bought too!doh!

i did notice that a lot of the vst plugins that come with the wavelab trial are now usable in sonar :). the wavelab 'cleancomp' is a very nice compressor that you basically can use for free in sonar if you load the wavelab trial version.

There has been a previous post which had a the same sample of file written out in both Sonar 2.2 and Sonar 3.

Not to mention Live Input Monitoring that's switchable in the track & mixer view, instead of hidden in a pulldown menu. You can also insert plugs & do edits during playback without interruption. And let's not forget that amazingly configurable mixer, with it's endless bussing capabilites... It's like having a software SSL console for cryin' out loud.

Oh, and BTW, I do hear a difference... especially where translation to different systems is concerned. Much 'softer' sounding, more detailed, and cleaner. I'll post my results on my site sometime next week.

In the meantime, check out this link. My 'first impression' eval while tracking with S3.

alright, i just spent a couple hours tracking with my new sonar 3 upgrade and my verdict is this:

having a multiband compressor and seeing the wave as it's recording is worth the upgrade. actually just seeing the wave as it's recording is worth the upgrade for me. and that channel eq is a very nice tool as well.

well worth the price imo. cakewalk done good this time.

I purchased my copy of Sonar 3 Pro Ed. two days ago. I can definitely hear the difference between 2.2 and 3.0

Actually, it has a clearer/brighter/deeper sound. It was the "sound" I was looking for.....

Sonar 3 now seems as if it can compete against Logic and Nuendo in terms of that "pro" sound.

My $0.02
