Has anyone tried using Sonar 2 with Reason Virtual Studio?

I have Sonar 2XL and Reason 1.01 on a PC running AMD Thunderbird xp 1.9xp with Creative Audigy Platignum SCard.

The reason (ha ha) I ask is because I am finding it difficult to save and then retrieve files from Sonar that include Reason as a (mock) dxi. Sometimes I find Sonar hangs in record mode and record is impossible. Has anyone got any tips about this combination?

I've been using Reason 1.01 with Sonar 1.3, but not directly as a dxi in cakewalk, so I haven't seen what you describe. Are you using Re-wire or straight dxi? I love Reason's interface so much that I never do midi in Sonar anymore, but I'm thinking about the Sonar2 re-wire thing as being very attractive (better than exporting audio out of reason). Also looking forward to Reason 2 later this month.

Thanks Heinz for replying. I am using Reason as a rewire device under dxis in the normal dxi synth box in Sonar and I have managed to work midi channels thru record and play by selecting i/o and then 14 for the "channel" setting (not midi channel 14) and I save the reason synth as part of the sonar cwp file. On reloading the file it does not have the reason synth patch settings that I used (eg "Berlin").

Sorry this is not quite what I originally thought was the problem was but things have moved on since then.

I agree that Reason is brilliant and I was astonished when I was originally told that Cakewalk had managed to synch up to a Propellorhead's product. it would be great to use the reason synth racks thru Sonar.

Incidentally anyone who is considering experimenting with Sonar and Reason, please share your comments with us because we are all aware that it is a very recent synergy between Sonar and Rewire products.

i used rewire wit sonar....lil crashes here and their but i suspect that's from high cpu use...cuz i use plug-ins in sonar on the reason tracks and i'm only running a 900mhz athlon

Uh-oh!

I think the boy's from cakewalk have sold us a pipe dream on this one for the moment. I'm running an Amd 1.4 with a gig of ram and my system crashed when I tried to run these two platforms together as well (sonar-reason). I remember a short while ago, a little more than a year or so, when Sonar 1.0 first hit the street. I rushed out and got a copy and loaded it on my system, (a 600mhz PII at the time) and it was crash/bug city. After a PC upgrade, a month of tweeks, and two FREE upgrades from cakewalk, I was successful. Now even though this is their 4th version of Sonar, there may still be some ticks left in this program, especially with all the additions they've made to 2.0.

Has anyone had a lot of success with the DR-008 dxi sampler? So far I've had unfavorable results here too. Sonar even crashed a couple of times while trying to run this DXi.

I've also noticed that a couple of my songs that were finish in version 1.3 use more CPU pwr in version 2.0. It maybe my set up but 2.0 doesn't seem as stable as their last version. I've only had it for about 5 days. Maybe some minor tweeks will help here.

i can't recall much problems wit the drum machine DXI....but i don't use it all that much anyway
