I'm trying to record from a midi keyboard into Sonar with my AP 2496. I can record and play back midi fine in Fruity Loops so I don't know what the problem is. When in sonar, I can see the little midi keyboard (in the taskbar area) light up when I press a key. Actually, I can record a midi track and the midi information shows up on the screen in the recorded track. But I can't hear any midi play back. I have the midi out set to Delta Midi out AP. Any ideas?

Thanks.

What is plugged into your Delta MIDI Out?

You will need some sort of sound module/external midi instrument to produce a sound, and then if you want to record the audio, the output's of that to the inputs on your card.

If you want to hear MIDI, try using the VSC. Insert it into the project and route the MIDI track to that, then the output track from that to the main bus.

Porter is right, the AP2496 only has midi connectivity, it doesn't provide midi sound banks.

You need to "tell" your computer what sounds to play when you activate your keyboard. As Porter says, the best way is to trigger VSC which came with Sonar.

Welcome to the board, antij...

What's your MIDI keyboard ? (the one you used to record MIDI data)

;)

An alternative to the VSC:

You could use the sounds on your keyboard (if it has any), which I'll bet was the way James was headding...

Sorry 'bout that, James... ;)

Thanks everyone. I got it working with the VSC. It's has lots of cool sounds and my keyboard's sounds suck, so I'll just stick with that. Thanks again!
