I'm not fussed on the solo. Either dry it or dump it is what I'd suggest. the chords and emlody are very nice but the lyrics made me cringe. they might work for Morrissey if Johnny Marr was chiming along but to me they sound naff.

Had chance to listen, and I agree almost entirely with ray. The solo might work a bit dryer and I baulked at the lyrics in a couple of spots (mainly the "singalong" type refrain), but his voice and melody are good and it's all captured nicely.

The melody in the whistling at the beginning is really reminiscent of another song - I can hum it, but don't think I know any of the words and it's driving me a bit nuts. Something late 60s-70s era maybe? I'm going to be humming it all day trying to recall any lyrics from it at all...

After the solo the vocals seem to head to the left, which is odd. It also seems the vocal reverb and the guitar don't match. Too much vocal reverb IMO. Make them in the same space.

Cheers Greg. The reverb is the main thing I want to get right and working in this new room, it is my struggle at the minute. But I'll definitely be looking at that.

*EDIT* Yes the strings were dead on the guitar. We used an old guitar with dead strings specifically because it sounded nicer to us both than new bright strings. There was too much twang, way too bright.

1st thing I noticed is what greg mentioned...guitar sounded very present up front while vocals sounded distant/reverb....cool song, liked the carefree vibe of it...sung and played very well.

Thanks queepy. As above, I'll look at the reverb and levels.

Thanks Ray. I tried the solo dry and it still sounded wrong. I think I may have a little too much reverb on it though, I'll look at that.

With regards to the lyrics, I can't really say anything, it's not my song. I just recorded it and pushed the buttons. I do, however, think they were quite nice lyrics. He actually wrote the song on the day of my Mums funeral so I can hear the meanings in the lines and where it came from.

All I know about Morrissey is he's shit! :laughings:

Cheers Rob. It was actually me that came up with that whistling melody and I know what you mean. Reminds me of something but I can't figure it out. So it can't be too alike. :D If you figure it out, let me know.

:thumbs up:

I liked this song, great melody, balance of everything is fine, I would send the vocal to the same reverb as the guitars, you may need to hi pass the return of the reverb a little higher than you already have after you do this. With regards the solo, it fits well apart from when it comes in, personally I think it comes in a fraction late, an edit wont work so you'll have to get creative on a fix for that. I had a listen to a lot of the stuff on your soundcloud, I think it's great stuff, cover of 'like a rolling stone' is fantastic.

It is all the same reverb mate. I think I just have a bit too much here and there. I'll have a look at it tomorrow. The way the solo starts he did a slide in, which I didn't like but it's what he wanted. The timing was slightly off, I'll see if I can stretch it a bit into a better position.

Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed. Rolling Stone was a fun one to do. :thumbs up:

Morrissey as part of the Smiths with Mr Marr was sublime most of the time. Try almost anything from their 1st three albums.

Nah I'll pass thanks. I can't stand the man, his face, his hair, his morals or his music.

Hey Mr. Clean!

This is pretty cool. It's got a very jazzy, sort of Jack Johnson feel to it. I like the general vibe. I think you're getting a lot of guitar sound from probably rubbing against yourself. It kind of works, but might sound a little cleaner if you we're rubbing your guitar against your leather chaps. :)

Thanks Robert. Appreciate the feedback. That whole sound you describe is exactly what the person playing wanted so I guess I captured it pretty well. We actually chose the leather chair for him to sit on to get that sound when he rocked as playing the guitar. Some weird shit he had in his head that we had to somehow make it onto the track. Success!
