I thought you did a really nice job. I'll be a dick and say that the lead tone reminds me of something that might have come out of 1987, but my wife liked it because she's an aging hairmetalhead, lol.

With the Uke intro, I really expected this to be a cover of Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's version.
I was pleasantly surprised by the originality.
The panning on the acoustic and ukulele through the main part of the song (and the second lead near the end) was a little distracting. It probably wouldn't hurt to bring those a little closer to the center.
Otherwise, I have no nits.

How is that being a dick? That's a compliment to me! I wasn't playing much or recording at all in 1987 (working and raising babies!) but that's the era of my "musical heritage!" I've spent the past 3 years pursuing "my sound"--I've got it in my room and from my amp, now I'm just tweaking the process of capturing it.
But the closer I get, the more it sounds like, well just what you described.
My wife says if that sound ever cycles around and becomes the cool thing again, I'll be set.

Love it, man! I'd agree with Steve about the panning. Seems like the acoustic and uke are panned hard R/L. Bring em' in to even 95% on each, and it'll help gel a lot. Guitar playing is stellar, as usual. I personally *love* the lead guitar tone. I don't care what anyone says, 80's hair metal had it goin' on!

Good ear! It started out as a cover of Bruddah Iz's version. I just got the ukelele, and his song was the first one I learned. But...me being me...I just had to add the rest of the crap to it!
Yep, I think you're both right about the panning. I started it with the single uke dead center (again, a nod to Bruddah Iz) and I was so enamored with the transition from that single mono uke to the wide stereo spread when the rest comes in, that I think I overdid it!
So this latest version has the following tweaks:
Lead up a tad (Lt. Bob mentioned this. I'm always shy about the lead parts--they never sound good enough to me; but in this go 'round, I treated the lead guitar like a lead vocal--how loud would I want that relative to the rest of the mix?)
Bass down a tad (nobody said that, but it was a bit heavy to my ear after a few listens)
Panning: I brought the uke and the acoustic guitar in from 100% left and 100% right (yes, you were right--they were hard left and right!) to 75% left and 75% right.
PoeticIntensity--I'm honored at the thought that you want this in your mix. Feel free!
This is the last of this mix. I'm headed out of the country for a few weeks and have no more time. The funny thing is, this was an actual "job" that was done before I ever posted it here. It was a backing track to a video I made for work. The video was done and delivered a few days ago, but afterwords, I came back and re-played and recorded the lead parts. I was really grooving on this melody and couldn't stop playing it, so I recorded it and mixed it all again after I felt I really had it down.

Oh yeah...there was also a little flub in the beginning with just the ukelele--so I re-tracked that part with better fingers!

Great version, Bob. As always, your guitar playing is fantastic. Actually in some parts the lead could be louder. Otherwise great mix and performance.
