Something New

1. You've made my day as only a new LPC song can.
2. I shan't coment until I've had a chance to listen again.
I'm back after the 2nd listen - I have to admit a bias - I LOVE your phrasing & vocal tone Casey.
The verse builds to the chorus well. The vox are a little quiet in the verse but I actually like that.
The chorusriff, keys ettc really lift the vocals up & I see a good old Who laser light show in my skull.
The change with the gone gone refrain & acoustics is great.
I like the structure, the changes that are verse & chorus, the slightly mysterious lyric - I do enjoy reading your words fellows.
Terrific stuff.
This is the trio am I right.
This i's a clever mix of mid late 70's prog/rock/pop.
COOL STUFF!

It does have a slick 70's rock feel to it - especially in the chorus. Great vocals. The mix seems clear and balanced to me. Only a couple things stand out to me as a little off - 1) it pains me to say this, but I think the kick is a little too out front. You could drop it back a hair and still have it driving the song along. 2) The toms are kind of flat and barely pop through, like at 3:17. No presence. 3) I think the big crunchy distorted guitars can come up some in the chorus. With the exception of the toms, everything sounds really great and captured very well, and of course you guys got the chops. Great performances. Well done.

Sounds great to me. A little extra top shimmer on the cymbals would be to my liking. But I'm not in a choice listening environment

Thanks, Ray - we appreciate it. It is the trio, with Incanus on the guitars and James on the bass.

Thanks, Greg. We'll tone down the kick. As to the toms, you think a little HF bump would help?

Thanks. I think that's the mastering compression. We'll have a look at it.

I appreciate the listens, guise.

I thought it sounded real good.

I'd say the vocal could come up just a little bit in the verses.

I'd say the kick could come down a good 4dbs or so.

Other than that I thought it was excellent.

Sounds very nice. Reminds me of a modern day Jethro Tull. The snare could maybe crack a little more. But overall good performance, great quality. I love the 7 time signature you have going on in the verses.

Excellent ! You guys from LPC always puts out top material and this is yet another gem. I have no issues with the mix - I'll let you look into those items mentioned by others.

Simply wonderful!
Sounds totally professional. Just the couple of tweaks the guys mentioned and this one's ready to dominate the airwaves. Well done SC!

Thanks, Joey. Our album should be ready to distribute in October, and there's a few I need ears on. Glad this one is sounding good to your ears.

They're all being mic'd separately, and there's both overheads and a room mic.

Well, then I'd say simply bring the tom mics up more. If they still sound flat, then you could EQ and/or compress them as needed. A little compression can really bring a tom to life.

+1 on lowering the kick
The cymbals could probably come up a few db without maskin the vox

Overall very impressive work, the composition, the production, the performance are all top notch.

Really enjoyed the listen, I'm gonna listen a few more times, really great man!

I've had another couple of listens & spent time focussing on the lyrics which are terrific. Mind you excellent lyrics are always a part of your songs. The musical change between verse and chorus is just as clearly defined in the narrative.
My appetite for another LPC album is whetted.

I always dig your stuff....reminds me a bit of a Kevin Gilbert/Toy Matinee vibe.....intersting arrangment, really great vocals...top notch!

Back again after having a couple of listens more.
The chorus reminds me of Starcastle - the proggy/Ricky bass sound & the swirling keyboards in the L (?) ear really reminded me of their best moments - soaring melody, swirling keys, Proggy bass, great guitars & drums.
Now, that may not be a compliment for/to many but when they were hot (and it may have only been for moments not songs) they were amazing.
You've a great verse that uses a different pallatte entirely to balance the big lift chorus.
Now, where was I??? Oh, yeah, cool song!!

Hey Creep. Nice tones throughout and loved the arrangement...which is always a strong point with LPC tunes.

I'll echo Greg up to a point....the kick is pretty out front, but for this style it's not bugging me really. I agree with the lifeless toms...they don't have much attack or definition and could certainly stand some massaging. Compression and some judicious eq work, likely in the 800 - 2k range may help.

Overall, the track seems extremely compressed...and the cymbals seem to suffer the most. Just for grins, I pulled this into Sonar and worked with opening up the middle of the soundfield a bit then added a tape simulation plug and bam, the whole piece seemed to swell and the guitars really seemed to shine. The histograph of the soundfield shows that this is a pretty narrow mix, so maybe opening it up a hair will give the inner voices like the toms some room to breath. Might be worth monkeying with.
Fairly nit-picky stuff really, cause the mix is pretty strong as it is. But, I think there's more to be done with it to really make it shine.
Nice stuff as always, Casey.

Loving the 7/4 thing... and the submerged melody off to the left in the chorus..

I thought the kick a touch loud in the beginning and the vocals a touch soft too as others have mentioned but by the end of the song I wasn't noticing it.

Good stuff Creepmeister..
