ok, so I haven't done anything for a while. and since we had this 5 day snow and ice-in with nothing to do, I decided it was time for my once a year basement clean, redo, fix up, getting ready for my new year's eve bash. and this year I decided to take all my studio gear down and clean everything, throw out shit, redo connections, etc. well I came across a book of poetry that a friend left here in March. she's a big fan of my music and the guys that I play with. she left the book because I told her I might could do a tune with her words. well, like I said, that was March. I totally forgot, and the book got in with all my shit, and after the big redo I started looking thru it and found this. now this will be different from my "normal stuff". I was trying to get a sound that reminded me of her and her personality. very edgy, and kinda serious. she and her hubby are great friends. she cuts my wife's hair and does the boys when they are in town. her hubby is a golf buddy also. well she hasn't mentioned the book all year and we will be going to thier christmas party sat nite, as we do every year. and I plan to give her this tune, in hopes of her letting me do some more.

it's kinda rough, and very different from my stuff. please comment on the tune and recording.

I like it! I would add something to make it more stereo and equal on both sides of the field. Thats all.

Real good! The only mix comment I have is that I'd like the bass and electric guitar to have a touch more presence when they drop in. And I may have heard a plosive or two. But sounds good. Great vocal sound.

Great song, not sure if it would be better with drums or not. You would know that better than I.

I even liked the chorus effect, on the voice and guitar.

Nice work!!

sounds good.............there's something odd going on in the vocal on the p's such as in the first "people people" lyric.....i've never really heard something like that before...........did you use a pop filter? ......the p's are boomy..............

it's a nice song.........guitar sounds cool with that effect

thanks folks, I'm sure Tamara will dig. Now, I need one of them pop filters. I used a lot of effects, trying to get an edge.

scott, thanks, I'll look at that again.

groucho, thanks, a little muddy on the electric and bass.

rick, thanks man, I kinda thought the electric needed to be background over the acoustic. I got your addy, and am working on a comp. cd for you. soon. May be in the mail today.

GT, thanks, yeah, I think it kinda helps in the mix (chorus effect).
and i'm still not sure about drums.

powderfinger, thanks, no pop filter, and a lot has to do with my sorry ass voice and accent.

I hope to do some more of her lyrics soon, if Tamara likes this one.

Thanks again.

really flowing piece. It doesnt lose the flow anywhere thru it. When the solo comes in sky opens for this turning into a good journey, reall pretty. Then it resolves back to the message real nice. Vamping the hook out to infinity is good. I love stuff that flows.

Hey D......

.....yeah man, this is a change for you. I like it too. I caught what i could of the lyrics. My compliments to your poetic friend. the only thing that stuck out to me was the chorus on the lead vocs. ...just a touch heavy to me. Great tune man, and very nice implementation of another persons stuff (that can be tough sometimes). Very nice stuff bro..... ...and very nice tune.

Cool tune, nice arrangement...but something funky with the EQ,my comp speakers are rattlin like I'm inside the San Andreas during a tectonic shift, well not that bad but still...I like the electric lead over the clean tones, one of my favorite flavors.I agree with the "Floyd" comment. Some light Backing Keys might sound nice, violins or cello b.sab style.but I'm a bias opinion,so keep on rockin' in the home of the free...

Toki987, thanks. Flowing on.

G, thanks, also, I played and sang at the same time, so the effects went on with the guitar. Yeah, a little heavy. Sounds pretty good REAL loud thru my system.

It's kinda fun to just look at a page of words, and make some music to it. My own stuff usually starts with phrase or two that fits a certain chord or chords that just come up. Then for me, it turns into writting words to a musical theme. So this is kinda backwards. But real fun.

W.I.S.C., thanks, it's got to be the freaking bass. I have a lot of trouble with that. It works well on my stereo system, believe it or not, very loud. But I to hear a little rattle in my computer speakers. I agree with the other instruments you mentioned. After I let Tamara hear this, I hope to develope this further.

Lots of luck to you, then.I look forward to the next version...I'll be watching, baited breath and all...

My goodness! That was very nice! I loved the guitars. The vocals were really great (just a bit muffled and like there was what my husband calls room sound); you have very good voice command. You and Tamara should be very proud. Has she heard it yet? I would be curious to hear her reaction; I know I would be very happy.

Dan;

Nice tune my fellow Virginian! The song has so many possibilities but as-is, it sounds very open and airy on my puter speaks.

Vox is a bit muffled but singing is good, Bro! I like the surprize Lead popping out of nowhere.

I think your friend will love it.

Nice melodic song DTB. It has lots of possible directions as far as instrumentation. This song would be very easy to put drums to (00:40).

The electric... I don't know. I could live without it. Either that or make it a more constructive part of the song. To use it as a more dynamic element, I'd bring it up in this mix as usual double it and pan harder. The bass is blurred. The electric is somewhat muddy, try eq'ing some of the low end out of it.

Nice Tune.

Terriel, she will hear it tonight at her christmas party. Thanks for the comments. I do have a large basement area that I record in and it causes a lot of room sound.

Axe, hey man, see above. I think I get a lot of air from the basement. Thanks for the comments. Virginia is for lovers.

Emeric, thanks for your comemnts. very constructive. I don't use the electric very often (in my recordings) and it was a little muddy. Besides poor mixing, I think it comes from trying to keep it low in the tune. And I know the bass sucked real bad. It does sound a little better on my stereo system loud. It takes on an overall deep powerchord kinda sound.

thanks folks, soon

I like the way your voice sounds, but I was wondering, did you put 788 chorus on the whole mix? I like the effected vocals, but not the chorusey guitar..

good tune.. probably one of my favorites from you..

yeah, read above, the guitar and vocals were on the same track, so. I've been working on trying to overdud vocals but just haven't got there yet. Enjoyed using the old strat. It doesn't get a lot of track time. Kinda nice mixing the acoustic and the electric for a change.

Thanks, B.

I love stuff like this that reaches a little...it shows you're a true music lover, listening to all kinds of stuff. Anyway, I agree with the comment about the distorted git...I'd keep it, but bring it up on the rhythm parts.

Oh yeah, and I'm all about weird FX that don't necessarily fit...the chorus on the git doesn't really bug me.

let us know how it goes over,
chris
