When you get an adat input card for your computer, and you transfer 8 tracks at once, are you tranfering as wavs, or do you have to actually record the digital inputs? this is significant because if you have to record the digital input, then your next 8 tracks will be out of sync with the first 8 tracks unless you sync with a midi cable. n that case, I could just get a 24/96 4 input card like the Delta 44 and use sync to transfer to a recording program.
I was under the impression that you could simply transfer individual wavs to the computer, with the beginning and ending exactly as on the VF, the same as writing wav files to the internal cd on the VF. If I have to use the midi cable to sync the VF with the computer in order to keep the tracks synced, then the adat card won't help in that at all. It will only allow me to transfer more at once, and to keep everything digital, but I was hoping I could simply send 8 wavs to the computer exactly as they are on the VF, with ending and starting points in tack, and then do 8 more the same way, then load them all in Cooledit and they would all be automatically synced.
Am I right about this? If so, then I probably won't get the adat card. If I have to sync the two machines with MTC, then I can just use any quality card with a few inputs. It was having to sync two machines with MTC that I was trying to avoid. That is a hassle to me. Hell, I am better off just transferring with an erasable CDRW. I did five tracks yesterday like that, and they were all perfectly in sync, and I could have done 16 tracks like that without syncing the two machines with a midi cable.
