Well now that I've learned the more "proper" way to post mp3 links in this forum, I'd like some feedback on a song...;)

this is a lot different than my Band of Apathetics music... this an acoustic Christian worship song... so if it's not your thing, I'm sorry, but I'd love to hear feedback on the recording and performance... there are a few recording issues like plosives and littles noises picked up when I was tracking the guitar... so sorry about that too...

but anyway... at the moment, I'm wanting to record more acoustic sounding stuff... mostly me and guitar... and I was wondering how good i'm doing so far...

the guitar playing sounds crisp and tight, good job. Your vox are strong, good voice. I'd like to hear more exaggeration of parts where they're in harmony as opposed to unison. I think this reminds me of "Far Away" or "Here and Now?" not sure of the song name, but good job.

DISCLAIMER: Listening at work with headphones.

Song: Decent

Guitar Playing: Very nice

Vocals: Good

Mix: Acceptable. It sounds early in the mix process - verging on demo. I personally feel some compression is needed on both vocals and guitar. They sound 'far away'. You've definitely got some headroom to work with.

I'd be curious to hear the harmony vocal panned toward the left. I think you'll find it beef's things up a bit.

Nice piece

I feel you aren't capturing all the warmth you can. The sound is a bit thin. Good general qualities, well written and the guitar playing and vocals are very nice. If you can get a warmer, fuller sound I think you will happier with the piece.

bpoco: well I panned the acoustic a bit to the left and the BGVs a bit to the right so things wouldn't get too lopsided... and yeah I would consider it to be a "demo-sounding'song athe moment too...

sloop: how do you suggest a "warmer" sound... master EQ?? re-track??

ashulman: I was considering a 2nd guitar... I was wondering if any would suggest that

Get real drums....

:D

Just kiddin' ;)

I agree with what's been said. It could use a little warmth. Try a different reverb or tweak around with eq. Or both.

I'd try to seperate the two vocal parts a little, by panning, eq and perhaps even an effect on the second part...

Not sure why so many Christian posters feel they need to apologise for posting. I don't see why they need to. Just an observation.

Anyway... Pretty nice sound. Some good guitar playing - I liked the part anyway.

I thought the guitar covered the vocals in certain spots. Not real bad though. You might be able to compress the guitar a bit more and get a bigger sound to the song. There were a lot of dynamics in the guitar track.

The harmonies thru 1:00-1:15 sounded ok, but could be a bit tighter. A couple other too.

A little three part harmony going "Ahhhh" in the prechorus would work well I think.

Won't comment on the extraneous sounds since you mentioned them.

Good song.

I like that idea!! Now that you say something about it, i can hear it in my head. :) I'll defintely test that out, man. thanks!

I'm reaching for my wallet. When you gonna have a full CD of this kind of stuff? :D

Great tune! the vox falls apart in a few spots but not too bad. Id like to hear the guit a little fuller and less centered. tighten up the harmony some and your there!!:D I love worship songs because sometimes the inspiration shows through.

Peace

Do you think i should do another track of guitar and pan them?? What i've done before is to copy the guitar track and then delay it just a little bit and pan those 2 and it makes it sound fuller... any other suggestions? I think if I did something like that it would help with the guitar "covering" the vocal too...

And about the harmonies... I had auto-tuned the Vox... but it just sounded more real without it... so the harmonies are off just a bit...

Yes thats worth a try IMHO. I am kind of partial to guitar not sounding to thin. Thats a personal preference. Ive had a lot of luck using 2 mics on an acoustic for a richer more realistic sound. Dont worry about the vox You should hear mine:D

great tune man. all the suggestions sound good too. I think adding a second acoustic playing triads (although typical) will sound very nice. thanx for the post
