Irritated.
Normally I feed audio a track at a time into Sonar, and its great. I am trying to get a tune into Sonar from a CD, and it wont let me. I go to import, and then pick what I want, which shows as "track 1" and then it says the format is not supported. It is a regular CD and would not import as wav or any other files. Whats the deal here? Its gotta be something simple I'm not doing.

Ummm, what does that do, exactly? I just want a way to take a CD off the disk, load it into a stereo file in Sonar, tweak the overall EQ and maybe smash it a little, and be done with it. It wont let me import for some reason. Why?

Ok, when I list the tracks in the import box, it just lists them as track1, track2, etc....
When I click on properties, it gives me an msdos name of track1~2.cda
It lists a bunch of formats it'll play and import, but not cda, and every CD I have is like that. I thought CD's were basically wav files. None the less, I should be having no problems here. I'm pissed.

Tube
You'll have to "rip" the CD first in order to turn it into a wave. Sound forge 5 will do this for you or AudioCatalyst or any other number of ripping/encodeing programs.

Hmph!
Then why does my fully paid for prized Sonar not do this for me? That seems like a basic, normal task that would be done on a regular basis?
Time to mount another famous TubeDude bitch fest rally... email time.
Any other way to do it within Sonar at ALL? Thats bullshit.

GRRR! Dont say that!
I emailed them, and even left a link to this thread.
Sonar is supposed to be the final step, the program that does it all for me, and I cant even get audio off of a CD to tweak the EQ a little. Thats pretty damn sad. Hopefully it does it and I just cant find the correct way to do it, and then I will be happy again. If not, they are gonna need to mail me a free way to do it, or I'm gonna be pissed to the extreme.
We'll see.

Dude, the problem is very simple. Music CD tracks are encoded as Redbook audio, and as such are not a "file" you can just "load" into Sonar. You need software to convert the cd track into a .wav file. Queue and Track Rat had some good suggestions.

Sonar doesn't inherently have this capability, nor do the majority of multi-track recording software packages. It's not a frequently-requested feature for Sonar, since most people input via musical instruments, MIDI, or digital audio files.

tubedude,
Chill out and go download EAC, it is freeware, and it is THE BEST at converting CDA to WAV. The rest of the proggies (including SoundForge) suck at ripping compared to EAC.

EAC????

Hey Queue
Could you post a link or tell us where to download the aforementioned program from?

thanks!

kgbjamin,
Look up! (Link is in the 2nd post (my first) on this thread.) Click on Exact Audio Copy (EAC)
