If he hadn't just serviced it and gotten the heads re-lapped, I would agree...but a head re-lap is not cheap even for that deck.
It includes an optical alignment, and they also fixed his wiring....so it's a deck ready to roll, which is a big plus. as opposed to getting the two item for like $600-$700 and then having to do all that yourself.
To me, it's more about the age of the both items. I mean, it's older "pro-sumer" grade, and I would have to hear both deck and mixer before buying....which is probably possible, since he has a Pick Up Only for the sale.
I think it's more of a TEAC/TASCAM collector's type of item...guys that might do a little bit of basic recording, but are getting it mostly because it brings back memories from their younger days.

I'm just glad that I can satisfy my gear lust with high quality images for the most part as I'd assume you're probably correct that whoever buys those pieces is very likely buying them for reasons other than wanting viable recording gear. The mixer is noisy as hell and the recorder will likely have far more issues to deal with beyond the relapped heads.
Oh well.

But I wonder ... Does anyone know how the Teac 70 compares to the 80-8 (terms of sound quality), and how the Model 10 compares to the Model 5? I've heard conflicting reports.

Here's some basic specs on the model 10 mixer and 70 series decks.

I think you'll find all the specs to be inferior to the 80-8 and the mic input set up is geared to 600 ohm or higher mics only. Any modern lower impedance mics are going to cause overload and response curve anomalies on the 10 series mixer.
Now, if you're aiming for some sort of lower-fi vibe, I think this stuff would not disappoint you.
As to specific service issues, I seem to remember reading about issues with relays and motors on the decks. Not sure about parts availability either as this was a very short lives product in terms of numbers sold and shelf live in their product life cycle so parts would no doubt be as sparse as the decks which come up for sale...few and far between.
