anybody know about settings in windows???? that is what i believe to be the problem here.

i am running guitar tracks pro. i installed it, and it ran fine. i got a new computer, installed it and it ran fine. then one day, it turned on me. i can record on the first track just fine and it sounds as it should. but when i go to record on the second track, it seems to echo the first track extremely loud and distort it, and you cant even hear what i actually recorded on the second track. so all you hear is a really ugly distorted ear splitting version of what is on the first track. i know i am using a regular sound card and that isnt good, but it used to work fine. i plan on getting a new sound card, but what i had was good enough for the time being. i dont think it is guitar tracks pro though, because i downloaded a demo of another recording program (i forget which one, but one of the major ones) and it had the same problem. so i assume something in the settings of windows has been messed up, does anyone have any ideas?????

thank you for your help.

Thrakk,

Goto --> Volume Control

Options --> Properties

Select Recording, and OK

Make sure what you are recording is what is selected.
(i.e. "Line-in", not "what you hear")

Now depending on the Sound Card you have the options may be different. Sounds like to me you have a SoundBlaster and the "What you hear" setting is selected on the recording properties.

The distortion may be from the "what you hear" recording level cranked all the way up.

Hope this helps or at least gets you heading in the right direction.

If not, please in clude the type of Soundcard and Windows version you are using.

thank you, there was no what you hear option, but i did like you said and made sure that the only thing selected was the line in (what i am recording from) and i muted everything else, and it works now, thank you so much. it was getting really frustrating.

thank you

You're welcome,

Like I said in my other post though, A new soundcard will help tremendously. I started the way you're starting now a few years ago.

Good Luck
Larry
