Some Real Country

Here's the quintessential cry-in-your-beer
country tune. Complete with authentic cowboy bar EQ on the mix and some really tasty slide guitar. I didn't have any part in this other than the transcription to mp3 format. The recording was done at another home studio so it's still appropriate as a post here. Bob Lowe, the owner doesn't have a computer. Just a 1/2" 8-track tape machine, a nice mixer and a good standalone CDR/RW.

Hmmm...you don't want to take any credit for a country song, huh? Snob genius...just kidding doc...that tune was the real thang, I mean thing...I've written LOTS of country songs, none of which you'll ever hear on this bb...too many "alternative" purists out there for me to be the only one getting a pit bull's teeth attached to my butt...was that one guy or a band? Very together sound, tight like the honky-tonky dance bands around Austin...enjoyed hearing it...gibs
 
Thanks for your Texan verification of the authenticity. Here in Southern California it's easy to lose sight of what's real and what's Memorex. As to the disclaimer: I just won't take credit for someone else's work.
As far as I know that was a singer, a steel guitar, a bass and a lap steel guitar backed by a drum machine!
 
Man doc, for a second there I thought you had some crazy ass realistic MIDI steel guitar thing going on...and then I actually read your post :)

I agree that it sounds great for country. Being in Montana I get to hear way too much country...especially through my wah pedal. I would say that this particular style of country is real nice. Good instrumentation, good vocals, and good use of standard country cliche. None of that modern dixie chicks garbage.

The only thing I can comment on negatively is that the something in the sound isn't consistant...I don't know if it's the overall level or what...but it doesn't seem level. Right at 1:46 is a good example. And there's a lot of confusion in the lower midrange between the vocals, bass, and rhythm guitar (which is totally lost). In fact the whole mix could use some highs. I think...I'm not too good at this stuff myself.

This sounds a lot like the Marshall Tucker Band...one of my favorites actually.

I really like the song! The bass does sound a little canned but the slide guitar (synth?) sounds great. Just thought I'd let ya know.
 
There is a ton of that country stuff out here also. Actually I would like to give a shot recording that style some day.
