Some rather disturbing new RNMP information

As quoted by Fletcher on the rec.audio.pro forum, after a discussion with someone FMR related...

"Yep...September (release date). Looks like the first one to be released is
going to be a '4 channel unit' for just under $2,000...the

That was indeed the gist of the
last conversation. Seems that it's easier to build the 'full blown' model
first, with the 'scaled down' versions coming afterwards. No one will really
know jack shit until a unit is released...but that indeed was the gist of the
last conversation.
 
whyn are they sellouts? thats seems reasonable to me.
 
they offered a great product for a reasonable amount of money in the RNC.

Now they are charging neve money for hopefully neve quality. Where is the price based competition in that?
 
The single channel will soon follow...2000/4 works out to about 500 bucks a channel. Seems reasonable to me.

It is reasonable, I'd actually expect it in the $400/channel range, it just sucks that I wanted to get away with having 2/cheaper/sooner. At least there is some information progress...
Guess I wont get one as soon as I thought, but it'll come, it'll come...
 
*beeeeep* bad news... As a hobbyist.. I don't care if it's stellar performance for "only" pro-price....
 
I wonder how the Studio Projects VT-1 will compare to RNMP. Anybody heard anything about it?

The STudio Projects VT-1 is shaping up very nicely. It does sound real nice, but as for comparisons...well, we will just have to wait for its release in a couple of months. I just hope that we don't run into what happened on the C1, because the beta testers will be offering their opinions, and I want to avoid the backlash from some spoiled sports on other newsgroups.

On the other side of the coin, we will be offering an 8 channel mic pre at Winter NAMM with basic features like, 48V, Pad, Mute, Direct out, and insert on each channel, L/R assignment and summing. It will all sum down to stereo out. Target price...well very inexpensive, but using a proven design with some interesting background.

There will be some very exciting news from us in about four weeks that we will be releasing, that will be good for all of you users out there as we have some major plans...sorry for the tease, but I have to prep you all up first.

This is not Neve money, who said anything about Neve quality? Jeeeezz.
 
For $2000, one can buy a two channel neve pre and have change.

I would hope that its neve quality or else why would they be charging such an outrageous amount.

Being that most of us aren't made of money, but want high quality sound, I've heard nothing but good about the Vintech 2 channel which is about $1300, and based on the original Neve 1272 circuit, which fucks homereccers up the 1st time they hear it. Its not 10 series, but 10 series stuff racked is $6000. The Vintech has a very thick vanilla sound, according to the posts I've seen and the people I've called long distance to talk to about it. Great River has a dual based on the 10 series for about $2000, but no EQ, which is a big part of the 10 series. I am considering the Vintech as an alternative to the Brent Averill rack mounted Neve ($1089, single) that I was planning on getting. Most people claim to hear a difference between the real one and the Vintech, but it has serious character regardless. Most experineced people seem to claim to hear a difference between every Neve in general, so its a moot point, I guess. I've not seen anything negative about it the VIntech yet, and the people I've talked to that have them love them. Alot. Enough to buy 2 or 3 units.

No word on the FMR site about the RNMP yet, but I've been kinda thinking that the Vintech, 4 channels of RNMP and a couple "filler-pre's" like the MP20's would be a powerful rack. I'll know when I actually hear em all, as the MP20 is the only one I've got to hear yet. I'm talking to someone about borrowing the Vintech for a day or 2, at my expense, and checking it out. As for the RNMP.... sheesh, R&D is Slooooow.
Anyway, under $2000 for 4 pre's is not Neve prices. I wish it were. The Vintech might be as close as I ever get.
 
Currently they are only available in vanilla, tuna and excrement.
I know vanilla is a weird word to use, but I have heard a Neve that had a sound that "vanilla" somehow describes. Hard to explain, I guess you just gotta hear it. Thick and creamy, in a way. Makes sense when you hear it though. I thought the Focusrite Red I heard had a a mildly vanilla sound to it.
Since I haven't heard the Vintech, I'm just playing on popular commentary by some of its users. I dont doubt that it is very vanilla flavoured though.

I think vanilla should be used to describe the thick solid state pre sound we lust after. Chocolate for rich tube pres.
