I have a 2-300 dollar budget, and im looking for some great insturemnet condenseors. I love to have 3 of them, so im looking at the lowend samson, mxg stuff like that. Any best buys or things to stay away from in my price range. Im recording horns and piano, and drums (not looking for drum mics however). Thanks so much

I just bought a stereo pair of MXL 603's. They are pretty damn good. You could use those for a nice stereo sound on a piano. You don't necessarily need the stereo pair. But you can probably pick two up for $100 online and use them for overhead drums as well. As for the other $200 bucks. I don't know much about recording horns, but I suppose an SM57/58 would work. Those are somewhere in the 50-80 dollar range. Leaves you about 120 for some other mics. I haven't heard much about the Samson's. Try doing a search on them and maybe you will come up with something. I believe their main lowend mic is the C01.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again. For a budget three-mic setup, you can't beat two MXL 603s and one SP B3. The B3 gives you an LD with multiple patterns--very flexible. You will have a matched pair for stereo recordings, an LD for vox and guit cabs, an omni for horns and as a room mic, three mics for drums, etc. You can recording virtually anything with this setup for around $300. An SM 57 would be a good addition.
