Hi I'm glad I discovered this excellent site.
I've just started using MIDI and not knowing much about it I have encountered a few things which have perplexed me. So I wondered if some knowledgeable people could kindly enlighten me a bit.
Firstly is it essential to use a sustain/damper pedal when recording from keyboard? I'm not using one but have found that when I am recording various takes I'm sometimes getting a mysterious note appearing at the beginning of the take which I didn't play but I only notice upon playback. I am wondering if this is a "left over" from my previous take?? I've also had some notes which I haven't been able to stop without switching to another voice.
Also sometimes in the middle of recording the notes I'm playing suddenly go high pitched as if they've gone up a few octaves which of course ruins the take. I'm not sure why this is happening. And other things I've found are the sound dropping out and having to unplug my MIDI usb connection and the re plug in to get the sound back.
Finally for recording keyboards is MIDI the beat way to go as someone mentioned to me that there are other options?
Oh I just thought of one more question. I have two keyboards. If I record parts of a song from both using the same voice setting or VST will there be any noticeable difference to the sound? The only reason I ask is that I was going to add to a recording I already made but wondered if any factors would make the two keyboards not match up.
