howdy everyone!

i had a few questions about the behringer xenyx x1204 and some other hardware questions.

1. is it possible to apply the EQ to the 2-track/usb input? i'd really like to do that :D
2. second, how does one connect speakers to the output? is it done with the control L/R outs? i currently have a stereo system that uses RCA jacks
thanks for any help :D

Once it's recorded, I don't think you can apply the EQ, no. But I don't think you would want to apply that EQ. It's not the greatest quality that's for sure.

Hmmm.... I think their would be gain problems if you went out of the mixer straight into another amp! I don't think it would fry anything if you tried it, but I'm not 100% sure. Don't try it until someone else chimes in.

No, the mixer will not apply EQ to the USB input that is coming from your computer - apply EQ in your playback software or DAW. The best bet for sending the signal to an amp is from the MAIN outputs or ALT 3-4 outputs. If you use the Control outputs, you will bypass the mixer's EQ and FX.

hey guys thanks for the help.

another quick question:
i plugged my bass into my DI box and then my DI box into my mixer and then an output into the bass amp (just for testing, really), and found that the only output i get is in the control room out (left). why is that?
(i used an unbalanced TS cable as the output, as well as for the DI input)

edit: after re-reading mjb's post, i felt this necessary to add.
the xlr cable is plugged into slot 3, and the out was plugged into alt 3 out. not sure how the alt things work though, so if someone wants to enlighten me i'd be happy.

and the out was plugged into alt 3 out.

That's the reason right there. Outs 3-4 create a stereo, L/R signal. You only took the left side of that signal.

Unfortunately, I don't think your mixer has individual direct outs. Small, compact mixers usually don't.

blahh
ok, so if i wanted an output, i'd either have to use monitors or some headphones, yes?
if that's the case, i'm probably going to go with the headphones.

What do you mean if you wanted an output? If you wanted to hear what you are playing?

Yes, headphones will work. Make sure you get one of these. A 1/8" to 1/4" adapter.

yeah. i am going to buy one of those. and yes, to hear what i'm playing

so with a mixer, what would i use to record the sound? mine is the x1204 usb, so i figure i could use the usb out to record to FL studio.

If the signal block diagram attached is of good enough resolution study that.
If not, put "Xenyx block diagram" into Google and get the .pdf (Behringer stupidly no longer include such data in their handbooks and the .pdf is too big for HR to handle!).

Now I know some people wail and say "Ooo! I can't handle technical diagrams!" Well I say "tough" because you HAF T!

If you drive you must be able to read a map (GPS is not infallible!). If you don't drive the Underground diagram? My point is, diagrams are the way we make sense of the world (that Berry diagram is no more an "accurate" representation of the actual circuitry than is the UG map!). You can follow a signal thru' from mic input to output.

Yes, the mixer can feed a hi fi amp. The good thing about audio is that you can plug almost anything into anything else and it won't smoke. May not work or might hum like stink so keep gains and volumes low and advance slowly.

Yes you can record a stereo mix via usb but the system is limited to 16bits and often the usb send back to these mixers is rather noisy. Latency (Googe again!) is also likley to be poor. I ran a Xenyx 802 into an M-A 2496 (24 bits) soundcard for several years and Son got very good results. You could do the same*. The mixer has since been replaced with an Allen and Heath ZED10, rather better!

*If you have a laptop or if fitting an internal card is scary, look for a modest Audio Interface such as the M-A Fast track pro, Tascam US 144MK2. These can often be found in CashConverter shop and their ilk.

thanks a ton guys
1 last question: i'm using a shure pg58 mic, and i want to use it with my computer, specifically for talking with skype and recording vocals into fl studio. how do i do that? i plugged it in to my mixer and the mixer into my computer but i can't figure out why it doesn't make any sound.
if any of you know, it'd be great. thanks!

I am not so sure it ever will work! We (I think it was here?) had a similar question about an audio interface and Skype and I don't think that ever got resolved?

It would seem that Skype goes with the Skype headsets (usb?) and Audio Interfaces work for music and never the twain?.....A close talked at cardiod dynamic is in any case the last thing you want for a telephone! Google "proximity effect, microphones"
