Some feedback on songs

These are some rough mixes recorded with 2 different microphones. If I were to have them remixed by a professional engineer, do you think the vocals would sound on par with commercial recordings, or would I have to re-record them in a studio?

Someone said it sounds like it was 'recorded in a home studio.'

Thanks a lot!

If we were to mix these tracks for you, I think the biggest things we would change would be the reverb (which isn't right) and the balance and stereo imaging. In short, literally sort the mix out . Most of the individual parts sound fine and I wouldn't anticipate having to request new vocals for it, I think they just need to be mixed nicely by a professional.

Thanks a lot cobaltaudio! The plan was to record the vocals at home then have an engineer mix everything...but some other engineer was trying to convince me to record in their studio because it would sound better or whatever. Nevertheless, good to know that an engineer would be able to work with the existing vocals!!

Listened to Jar of Hearts. Nice singing voice.

A couple of suggestions...

The reverb on the vocal was real sibilant. It also didn't match well with the reverb on the piano. I would try to match those two better. I'd also roll off a bunch of high end on the vocal reverb if you stay with the verb that you have.

I think the vocal would probably be enhanced with a small low end boost. Maybe a 2db, wide boost centered somewhere around 220 - 240 hz.

I agree with most of what was said above..

however... i would change performance a bit. i like your voice and i think you can sing... but i dont like the way you are embellishing it.... it sounds like its from disney's Aladdin.

Thanks TripleM! I'll see what the engineer could do with it.

How does the embellishment sound, like a Broadway type thing? I wasn't really trying to do anything special haha.

Hey Jon, I remember you from a year or so ago, welcome back. As always, I think your talent is a step or two above the rest. However, like I've said in the past, I think you hit the compressor way too hard on your vocal tracks. The superfluous sounds of the singing are at the same level as the vocals; ie, sibilance, breathing, etc. (However, I didn't hear any lip smacks or 'tacky tongue'.) I think if you dial the compressor way back, it won't accentuate those features and will add so much more to your track.

just my opinion, maybe I'm wrong.

I explained it sounds like disney right? lol thats what i meant.

Hey Chili, great to see you here again!!! Thanks so much for the feedback. Yes, I suppose that explains the sibilance I'd been hearing in that track. What did you think of the "untitled" track? That's the one that will be remixed later on by another engineer.
