I bought the black metalflake XV-650 earlier this Spring and I like it a lot. I wanted a Tele with humbuckers and didn't want to rout out one of my other Teles-plus it's a very lightweight guitar & the price was sure right for it. I customized it by adding 2 push/pull pots for dual volume controls-it's a really versatile tone machine now. By the way, they ship with a .009 set of strings-I prefer .010's for the beefier sound and the feel.
The other Teles are solid-1 is ash and the others are basswood-ash is definitely the most twangy as far as tone. The solid body Xaviere in natural sure looks great, with the vintage bridge with 3 barrel brass saddles and the black pickguard.
The GFS pickups are fine pickups, I'm using them in quite a few of my guitars-I would advise that you should change the stock 3 way switch though. They are not very durable in the long run and I installed 4 way switches in my Teles in place of them. It gives a series sound-which is louder with more bass-as well as the standard parallel Tele sound.
I would say the solidbody may be a good one to go for-hope this helps.

That definitely helps. Thanks a bunch man! It's great to get such great responses.
Thanks again!
Definitely leaning towards the solid body.

any soundclips of the 650?....

Humbuckers on a T-style?? HERESY!!!! If you must, I'd go with solid body to stop it becoming a total jazz box.

Humbuckers? Neither of the guitars I posted had humbuckers... So uh, what?

I had an old blues rhythm track that I added some lead lines to-they are sloppy but it gives an idea of the guitar and the pickups sounds. A clean track of rhythm-both pickups in s/coil mode-panned opposite tremolo part.

6 verses and turnarounds

1-neck pickup in coil split mode-single coil
2-bridge pickup in coil split mode-single coil
3-neck & bridge pickups in coil split mode-single coil
4-neck pickup in humbucker mode
5-bridge pickup in humbucker mode
6-neck & bridge pickup in humbucker mode

Blues Driver for a bit of gain into Peavey Classic 20-no effects or reverb

As a rule, I will always prefer a cheap solidbody to a cheap hollowbody. The more of the guitar's sound that come from the wood, the more the sound of the cheap wood will be highlighted. This is also a large part of why it is easier to buy a usable cheap electric than a usable cheap acoustic. That said, I can't imagine why anyone would want humbuckers on a Telecaster, but I'm old-fashioned. If I wanted humbuckers on a light solidbody, I'd just get an SG. And yes, I understand that there is no real reason for this. After all, Pete Townsend managed just fine with P-90's on an SG.-Richie

Yeah sounds good. I think when the time comes I'm going with the solid body one. I'm not getting humbuckers on the guitar...I never planned on it. The reason I wanted a tele was for the single coils. But yeah.

Thanks for the input!

I reviewed one of the solid bodies for FrugalGuitarist.com last month. Nice guitars in my opinion. The pickups are low output, so if you want something with a little more fire you'll have to swap them. Alan reivewed a hollow a few months prior and has several clips on YouTube. You can read the full reviews on my site, www.frugalguitarist.com.

Yep and it sounds good too with much more sustain than the single coil pups.

I like the sound of those Dream 180's and the way I've rewired it it's got a ton of tones. I also realized I put the wrong model number down-it is a XV-600 Tele style-it isn't marked on the guitar any where.
650 is a Strat style with the F hole.
