Solid/Cheap Recording Setup?

Hay im noob at the home recording stuff. Thanks for helping out. What im looking for is advice on a system to record lyrics/sound at home to be burnt on a cd, that also has ability to remove vocals from tracks. I know its kinda of a broad list but like i said, im noob. So is there a setup like this, and iffy then how much is it gonna set a brotha bak? kthx. :D

ok, if all u want to do is vocals... just get a nice sound card with a pre amp..and a nice mic... if u want to record drums and all that...different story
 
ok so it all hooks through the computer then? The computer is basically the recorder? So I dont kno, waht would i need then to add the vocals to a background music track, something like Cool edit or is that more than i would need? :)
