I am new to the digital recording world. I recently got a PC and am in the process of deciding on what software to get. This is what I'm figuring:

n-tracks
sound forge 5.0

Two questions:

1) I have is sound forge 5.0 comes with Vegas Pro. I believe it only can record a total of 8-tracks per song. This seems like it might be limiting. This is why I'm thinking of getting n-tracks. Does anyone have any comments on this?

2) Also, I am thinking I will need some software that can create some drum tracks. I have an Alesis SR16. Can I use this, or would it be better to get some software? Can anyone recommend any good drum/bass software for creating classic rock / rock type drum beats? I would like something that can make interesting drum beats, not just a bunch of loopy stuff. Any suggestions?

3) Any other software I might need, or should this do the trick to get started?

Thanks a bunch,
YZL

Get N-Track and start putting down tracks...the Sr-16 will be fine...what you have now is more than enuff to get started......

I am also using N-Track and SoundForge5. Great combination; you won't be sorry.

The version of Vegas that ships with SoundForge is Vegas "lite" with limited tracks. Once you compare it to N-Track, you'll uninstall it or ignore it like I did. It's a dog compared to N-Track.

I'm using FruityLoops ($49) for drum tracks, you might want to check it out if you want to try something besides your SR-16.
