I went ahead and snatched that alesis wedge listed on ebay. just hope it works when it gets here (crossing my fingers). i got it really cheap, under $50 including shipping, so as long as there are a couple of decent reverbs in it I'll be happy. thanks for the tip on the wedge sonicalbert.

fishybob, the computer latencey was just too much for me. i've been reading up on latencey a bit and it seems that even the newer and faster systems can't get really low latencey without hogging up alot of cpu power. for now, I'll just use the outboard box, assuming it's not a dud, and wait for technology to advance a bit further before i upgrade my pc. btw, i usually track with headphones. can't get my ears any closer to the speakers than that. :D

You bid on that auction where they put the wrong picture up didn't you? That's an eBay no-no: wrong picture, and no feedback. That's an auction I would have avoided, but you were rewarded for taking the risk by a very low price on the Wedge. The seller seemed reasonable in her responses to questions, so I suspect it will work fine and you will have a nice reverb for a *very* good price. If you look at her other auctions you can see that the gear being sold is in good shape and seems to be well taken care of. So I would be reasonably confident the Wedge will arrive in good to excellent condition and will work fine.

You may be surprised at how good the Wedge is, it's very usable for your purposes, and you will also be able to use it in mixes if you want.

yea i did kind of take a chance i suppose. i think i might be a bit of an ebay moron  . i did email her about returning the wedge if it is doa and she responded quickly. still, i need to learn more about ebay no-no's. if the wedge works though, might be the best $50 i've spent yet.

I really think it will be fine. I looked at her other auctions and everything seemed to be well cared for.

The Wedge originally had a list price of $499, and really does favorably compare to the other units in the price range, at least the ones available at that time. (late 90's I think). They just didn't sell, for whatever reason. I used to own a couple Wedge's, which I bought for $99 at the Guitar Center blowout. I used them for a while too, but then I got into higher end reverb boxes and was cutting down on my budget boxes. It was still hard to part with them, due to the incredible user interface. I like the big display and the sliders to change parameters. It's very easy to use and sounds much better than the MidiVerb in my opinion.

I finally got that wedge today. of course ups lost it for a couple of weeks. i can always expect something to go wrong when I buy something thru ebay. :D at least the unit works though!

i have just started playing with the presets, singing and playing in a mic thru my mixer and it sounds pretty good. it's nice to have a little reverb in my headphones without a nasty latencey delay.

it seems like it will take me forever to learn how to use all the reverb parameters. the interface is layed out very well though. everything is quick and easy to get to. i think this is gonna make a good unit for starting to learn about reverb. i read that in order to use reverb effectively, one should know what the actual spaces sound like that the reverb unit is trying to reproduce. is this really the case? it would take forever to learn the characteristics of all the typical spaces.

oh god..........this box is making me an effects junky again, like when I got my first guitar mulit-effects box. i'm making up cheesy 80's type tunes and liking it. someone help me.

So I guess this means you are liking the Wedge? :D

it seems like it will fit in well with the rest of my low budget gear :)

I found the Wedge to be utilitarian. Nice and clean and kind of personality-less, but well suited for certain things. For a monitoring reverb I think it is almost ideal.
