I have been thinking about this for a while now so I'll ask on here, What is a good software to use with a MR-8? I have about $200 right now. Thanks in advance.

!N track, N track, N track!

You can find N-track at fasoft.com. VERY Inexpensive, and comparative to many MUCH higher priced programs. VST and active X compatible, it's only weak point is midi(so I hear). There is an excellent support forum at audiominds.com, and There is also a support forum here (though it doesn't get as much traffic as it used to, seems to be in a lull).

Download some trial versions, try 'em out. There is also a thread going over somewhere in the computer forum here at HR.com.
I highly recommend N-track, the owner of which, Flavio, is always coming out with upgrades/fixes/etc. You will find quite a few of us MR8'ers who swear by good 'ol N.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

*edit* N-tracks will also leave you around $150, to buy a mic or something!

PowerTracks Pro Audio from PG Music also works well, and costs about $50.

i am a long time user of powertracks. also have used ntrack. there is a new version 9 out that blows all the competition away imho. particularly on the midi side which ntrack does not have. one exciting feature is vocal pitch correction and harmonisation.
heres the link. try the demo. take the video tour.
pgmusic.com click the powertracks button at the top of the page.
note. powertracks has a slew of built in effects like noise gating, echo, rvb,
AND SPECIFIC FX SETTINGS FOR BASS PLAYERS, guitar players, vocallists and drummers that ntrack does not have.
also - frankly i prefer the ease of editing audio tracks in powertracks.
whatever software you decide on make sure you have 512 ram and a 1ghz plus processor and fast hard drives.peace.

My Uncle suggested Cakewalk Home Studio Version 2, Link Here, is that at all good, its a bit more $$ than the ones that you guys have suggested. So have you heard anything about or ever used it?

software

Get Power Tracks or ntrack and put the other $150.00 towards a decent condenser mic. Both are easy to use and produce good quality recordings. Pj

n track

seems powertrack uses its own effects, not the vst or directx plug ns available for most music software, many are free and work really well. I will say n track has the best user based support out there...and a proven track record,

download the domos to both and see what you like....

TONS of free effects out there usable with Ntracks.

I have so damned many, I'm sure I'll never use half of them!

PowerTracks can also use VST plugins. I use them here for effects not part of the standard package.
