I am thinking of adding some sort of software synth to my rig and am looking for input as to which may work best for my needs. I am looking for something that has great acoustic samples ie. Drums, paino, strings, horns etc. I have taken a look at Reason and given the demo a spin but all of the demo songs seem to lean toward the techno or electronic side. I am currently restricted to the sounds on my Alesis QS6.1. Unfortunately my budget is somewhat limited as is my prossesor power.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions offered. Timm

u can get crazy plug ins and refills for Reason i dont use it but from producers i know they use it and they make hip hop and other types of genres. U can even sample and stuff so it has an open field for u to run in.

Go here.

You might find it a little overwhelming at first, but they have EVERYTHING in the VST + VSTi world there.

Start with a soundfont player. I know RGC Audio makes a free one, then Google for Sound Fonts which are thick on the virtual ground of the web.

Others free softsynths you might download to see if they run smoothly on your limited machine are Synth 1, Superwave8, Triangle II, Minimougue and Monolisa.

Yup. A jillion free soundfonts out there (www.hammersound.net) and get the free SFZ soundfont player from rgcaudio.com Great way to start.

I'm happy with SampleTank2XL, but it ain't cheap.
