Software sequencer to Hardware sequencer

Can software and hardware sequencers communicate? (I know nothing about MIDI by the way...I'm just about to get started)
I want to edit and sequence on my computer and then dump the MIDI info down to a hardware sequencer so I can have the ease and complexity of computer arranging, but I'm mainly interested in what I can produce live, so I don't want to have to re-program everything on my hardware sequencer...make sense at all?

If all you what to do is dump everything down to the hardware sequencer when the arranging is done, then all you have to do is plug the output from the computer into the input of the sequencer. Set the sequencer to slave mode (check your manual on how to do that), push record on the sequencer, then push play on the computer. When it has been transfered, hit stop on the sequencer, and your done.
