I have successfully hooked my cassette recorder/player from my stereo to my PC soundcard (in stereo) and also have recorded with satisfactory results - except with the software I have tried I have two choices:

1. Manually stop the recording between each song to create separate "tracks" i.e., identified by a CD player as one song
2. or record the whole tape and then manually edit the recording by cutting each song and saving as a separate file.

Help....any decent inexpensive software that will recognize the pauses between songs and separate the "tracks" for me?

Pardon my ignorance :)
...I just want the $100's of dollars of cassettes and records I have converted to CD. (I know....my age is showing-haha)

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, your'e stuck with the 2 methods you described. I'm probably wrong though, since I don't keep up to date with current recording SW.

I believe CD Spin Doctor will do exactly what you want. (Spin Doctor comes with Adpatec's Easy CD Creator Deluxe package). The program has an option called track splitter which senses silence and splits the music into tracks based on detecting silence. It works well for vinyl records, and I assume it would also work for cassettes (unless the tape hiss is loud enough to defeat it). It also has tools for cleaning up the music (reducing pops or hiss).
