This is the first draft of the mix, so hopefully it is alright. Most of the mixing was done through headphones.

This is a pretty straightforward alt/rock tune I've had for a while sans lyrics, then decided to get motivated and scratch some out and record it.

The vox get a bit busy at the end, so I hope everything is cutting through as it should be.

Enjoy, and any comments, feedback, critique is appreciated!!

Man that sounds good. I could maybe stand to hear a little more snare. It gets buried a little in the choruses. Everything else sounds really good. Love the guitars. :)

Hey Greg,

Thanks for commenting. I really didn't notice the snare when I was mixing, but after relistening I see what you're talking about. The very end of the song is where it really gets busy, and there's a huge vocal/snare competition going on.

Brad

I see, or rather hear, what Greg's talking about - the snare is buried under the mix. Sounds a bit over crowded in the center maybe. I do like how the vocals sound though - perfect level in the mix. Great harmonies.... Good catchy tune....

BTW - your link sent me to a Soundclick log on screen so here's the link you need to the song....

I just used your sig to find the song.....

:D:):D:)

Gerry...thanks for correcting that link, and thanks for the comments.

I've updated the song. I bumped the snare by 1db overall and then went in over the choruses and outro and bumped it a few more db's. That gets it to cut through a little more.

Check it out if you get a minute.

sounds pretty tight man. Is this all your playing on all instruments or a band? got some killer guitar riffs in there too.

Thanks Rockabilly. I'm playing/singing everything but the drums, which I programmed in from samples.

I have a band as well...I have some of our stuff out at www.soundclick.com/dressedupnaked but this and the other songs out on soundclick comprise my little "solo project."

Thanks,

Brad

Nice. Drums Sounds very real. What do you use to program? When I try little practice stuff without the band, I can't program drums for the life of me!

I've got some samples that I drop in Acid (pun definintely intended). Aside from my corny jokes, I set the tempo and grid spacing (i.e. quarter notes, 8th notes, etc.) in Acid. From there, it's just a matter of dropping (drawing) in the drums from the library. I usually start with kick and snare or sometimes a hat clicking along like a metronome and build from there. Once I build a Verse, Chorus, etc., I'll copy and paste then change around a hit or three to mix it up.

It's very time consuming, but it gives me a lot of flexibility to change sounds and beats even after all the other tracks are recorded.

Yep - the snare is definitely better now - more defined.....but not overly so. :):D:):D

VERY good result & the snare sounds well placed.
Nice little pet project you have.
