videos are awesome

Thank you guys for posting those videos. They have helped me tremendously. Especially Dub J, he is amazing. Anything else anyone can post would be most appreciated.

You could use www.yousendit.com . Just send it to any email address, you'll get a link that it can be downloaded from within a period of 7 days. Depending on your internet speed, it may take a bit to upload a file that big but that's one way of doing it. Then just post the link here for people to download it :) .

These files are sooo cool. You can learn a LOT from these.

EDIT: Also recommend compressing/zipping it to make the file smaller if it isnt allready.

LOL that Hatercake looked good. So what all do you guys do while making beats? Usually, I'm drinkin' somethin' and have a TV on in the background watchin' whatever. But when I record no food or drinks enter that room.

i usually close my bedroom door to keep my 1 year old and 2 and a half year old producers out, then i put on my headphones and start scrolling through my sounds for whatever melody i have in my head. if i don't already have a melody, i may just scroll through some sounds until i hear something i like and then run with it.

That sounds like a great idea,

email me in a couple of days, if you see that I haven't uploaded it yet.

So what all do you guys do while making beats?

I make most of my beats on the fly meaning theres usually some rapper standing saying "man can you make something that sounds like this"?

After about 15 to 20 minutes of tinkering I usually have what they are looking for looped and ready for them to start spitting.

It's wierd really cause while they are there I come up with all sorts of wild shit to do but when I'm home alone I usually end up shooting a blank.

Go figure...

it's been years since i made any beats, but i remember one of the things i used to do was after i did the drums and was adding melodies and instrumental sounds or samples, i would record the melody i had in mind and place it in the track, then, i would move it back a beat or two, or maybe forward, so that it's a little off time from what i originally recorded, and for some reason in most cases it sounded better that way. sometimes i'd even cut the wave in half and flip the sides, or even chop it into multiple pieces and place them randomly, stuff like that, but melodies and samples always sounded better to me when they were more "random". i would hardly ever use a recorded part exactly how i recorded it.

nowadays i record mostly metal and rock, but i use the same philosophies in that i don't normally let the bass, guitars, and vocals "follow" each other note for note. it makes it more exciting when there is more than one rhythm and different timings going on at once. the one thing i found with that first Dub J video was that to me, the beat was kinda boring. i mean it wasnt bad, but EVERYTHING followed the same pattern. but then again maybe i should stick to rock music like the guy in the very first video, haha :D :D

what do yall think of the Boola vid? this dude was being slammed pretty hard in another forum. it seems that he makes sampling look harde than it is. I myself, appreciated the trial and error that he went through to get the sample right. that was some real shit, because even though he is on a professional level, he was cool enough to show the little things that often stifle a sampling session and show how to fix the problem. most people probably would have edited that shit out. he even reproduced from start to finish a popular song that he had already produced. dude gets mad props from me for his donation to the hip hop community.
