So when is it too much?

Argh! No! It's doing my head in.

What's most annoying is that I took scratch tracks I'd done at home to overdub at uni, and APART FROM THE DAMN POPPING they were not out of place with my new tracks done in an expensive facility! Frankly, you wouldn't know it was my £100 guitar in my bedroom, although it was certainly enhanced by the mics in the studio. So if my PC worked, I could be making reasonably decent recordings here with my 'duvet on a mic stand' acoustic treatments!!!!

I'm at #23 as of 6 Jan. I think I will leave it up until it drops out, just to see how long it's there. It's still better than what's above it. But the song at #1 is decent. I don't think he's a member here....

This song sure is getting some attention! It's now #20 in the charts, listed as "hot", and yesterday it got 33 plays.

I bet if some of you collabed on this, it could actually be a pretty good song.

Any thoughts?

Hey Rokket, I'm trying to find your song on soundclick....what category is it under?

I retired it from the charts so I could concentrate on other things. If you just want to listen to it, it's still under the link in my first post. I did have it under guitar rock.

Song sounds pretty cool. Sometimes crappier recordings can be more endearing. I think what you're talking about is different tho. There's nothing wrong with you lol, doing everything right is great, but perfect blah is still blah...

Maybe you just grew fond of the older mix and the new one is actually pretty good once you come around to it?

No, the vocal is the only real problem with the newer mix. I can't get my voice to do it the way I did it on this older mix. I love the instruments on the new one, with the exception of the guitar solo, but the vocals.....
I added background vocals on the new one, and while I got the feel down, the execution was lacking.
Thanks for the listen. Maybe I'll put it back on the charts and see what happens. My daughter still knows the words and sings with it everytime I play the old mix. She gives me a funny look when I play the new one.

unrelated comment, but i hear alot of similarities (vocally and musically) to def leppard....

That's a first! Where the hell have you been? :D

I put the "other" version of the song up, so those that listened to the first one can compare. I would like to know how you think this one compares to the first, and beyond the bad mixing, how it can be improved. The vocals are low, so I know about that.

Glad to see you around a bit more, Mark. I was about to add you to the list started on here of the dearly departed  !
Have a listen to my latest version of Daddy's Little Girl, I think you may be right about the Def Leppard influence, although I couldn't hear it before...

hey rokket how do you do the drum micing with only the two inputs on the mr-8. I know u use tracks 5/6 or 7/8, but you use a mixer to mix a bunch of mics down first, or what?>

Nah, I cheat and use a Yamaha DD-55 drum machine! I run an RCA to 1/4" jack to the MR-8 inputs and then to track 5/6. I live in Gov't quarters, so a drum set is definitely out. :(

but if I did have a drum set, I'd do it like you just described...

Heh, I put the song back up, but under a different genre, and wouldn't you know it, I debuted at #24.... The NEW mix...
Who'da thunkit?:D
