I CO-WROTE 2 SONGS WITH MY FATHER (FOUNDING AND CURRENT MEMBER OF L.T.D) HE LOVED THEM SO MUCH THEY'RE GOING ON THE NEW ALBUM DUE TO RELEASE AT THE END OF APRIL UNDER THUMP RECORDS WITH DISTRIBUTION THROUGH UNIVERSAL.

FINALLY!!! I'M IN!!!

So. I just wanted to say thanks to all of you for helping me along the way with all of my REALLY stupid questions and surviving some of my first attempts at getting this stuff done.

All the while those around me said...just keep writing...just keep writing. And sure enough that writing is paying off.

Thanks ALL!!! I will keep you posted of any and all progress. Oh...and still working with Bernadette Cooper from Klymaxx who has turned into a serious musical mentor for me and helps to keep me focused on the goal. I am really, really, really thankful to any and everyone who's helped me along the way.

I swear i'll give homerecording.com a big plug when i get my grammy...ok...maybe that won't be anytime too soon. But i'll get one someday...just WATCH!!!

2005...i knew it 2005!!!

L.T.D. (LOVE, TOGETHERNESS, DEVOTION)

This is one of the songs her dad wrote, composed, and sang.

http://music.msn.com/album/?album=10040303

Here is the bio of the group (I attached a pic of one of the album covers).

L.T.D. (Love, Togetherness & Devotion)

Love Togetherness and Devotion (later shortened to L.T.D.) was one the best and most popular self-contained Soul groups of the 70s, and was the springboard for the great Soul balladeer Jeffrey Osborne. Formed in 1968 at Greensboro, North Carolina, the group was “super-sized” from the start, and, by the time they signed with A&M Records in 1973, included Jeffrey (drums and vocals) and brother Billy Osborne (keyboards), keyboardist Jimmy Davis, bassist “Onion” Miller, guitarist Johnny McGhee and horn players Toby Wynn, Arthur Carnegie, Jake Riley and Carle Vickers.

The group spent the next few years searching for its own sound, ultimately finding it in a tasty mix of funky party tunes alternating with sweet ballads, all fronted by Jeffrey Osborne’s rich, romantic baritone. After a couple false starts, L.T.D. landed a #1 Soul hit in 1976 with the now-classic love song “Love Ballad” (later remade, in discofied format, by George Benson) and the album Love to the World. They topped the charts again the following year with the funky dance cut “Back In Love Again” and the #1 album Something To Love. The group continued to score over the next three years with a series of wonderful Osborne ballads, including “Stranger,” “Where Did We Go Wrong” and “We Both Deserve Each Other’s Love.”

Both Osbornes left the group in 1980 (Jeffrey went on to a huge solo career and Billy formed the duo Osborne and Giles). The defections turned out to be fatal for the group. New vocalists Leslie Wilson and Andre Ray were brought in for the first post-Osborne album, 1981's Love Magic, a solid album that unfortunately failed to reach a substantial audience (it spawned minor hits with the dance number “Kickin It” and the ballad “April Love”). Lost to the indifferent public was Wilson’s outstanding performance on the title cut -- one of the best Soul performances of that year. Their next album, 1983’s For You, stiffed, and the group members decided to split.

Fifteen years later, Johnny McGhee brought together a new version of LTD, with Osborne sound-alike Greg Henneghen as lead vocalist. The new group cut 1999’s Marry You, an album containing remakes of some of the group’s biggest hits as well as a half dozen new Henneghen compositions, the best of which was the title cut, a solid ballad tailor-made for June ceremonies everywhere.

That's cool C.o.P. :)

That's why we are here.

We gotta make sure that we all are on our "game". :D

I "flipped" the h*ll out of one of her dad's tracks. Let's just hope he'll let me "clear" it without taking me to the bank.

HE HE!!! I remember that picture

MAN!!! That's funny. My Dad look's so YOUNG in that picture. Thanks Spin. I can't believe anyone MISSED the funk movement. Glad y'all took the time to listen. It's good stuff and REALLY fun to write. I mean. You can go bonkers with basslines...beats, everything ...it's like free game...just 'KEEP IT FUNKY!'

It's great practice. IT will push you to the limits of your instrument technique and make you want to really master playing so you can make an edgier, or new sound to funk, you know? Addictive...i was jammin' out to the stuff in the womb so now that i'm older, having the opportunity to have jam sessions with my Dad it's just amazing. We don't even have to talk to eachother...stuff just falls right together...like 2 halves finally making that full circle and ideas and creativity coming together seamlessly. Serioulsy. It only took us 4 hours on one track from a basic guitar line to a full finished product with a gazillion tracks. NICE!

Seriously - nice1 and congratulations to y'all!

hey Mshea, if you're still trolling the sight give us an update. i just ran across this thread searching for another old thread.

you are very humble... especially given your soul lineage.

I'm still here!!!

Let's see. The update is... (drum roll please)

I finally got to HEAR my songs after they were re-recorded. They went to the Soundcastle Studios in LA to record the album and I am just amazed. It has always been a dream of mine to hear my stuff played with real instruments and a full band and someone with a voice bigger and better than mine and i heard the rough cut from the studio and had to sit down and take a break. It is nothing but pure FUNK. I mean big, bad, old school L.T.D. and i am excited and praying this album will really put them back on the map. A lot of these older bands are still touring on their old stuff, a few have released new material, like the O'Jayz and are doing quite well. They are currently switching distributors, to get better worldwide distribution as about 80% of the current fan base is overseas. Pretty amazing stuff. I will let you know when the album is released of course. Thanks for asking about me.

I'm still holed up writing. Currently revising my plans and deciding to go on and get out from behind the scenes and try and become a performer. It's pretty scary, but hell...i'm not getting any younger and everytime i watch someone else up on stage at a show i realize that really is what i was born to do. Wish me luck, i'm gonna need a whole bunch of it, but hopefully this new L.T.D album will really put my family and I on the map.

Take care all. Once again thank you for all your help. Couldn't of made it this far without it. :)

***update - Ltd Album On Shelves In August***

Oh the joys of record company politics. But at least it's better late than never. The new album will be on shelves at record store near you in August. If you don't see it ask them to order the NEW LTD.

Dad's been traveling a lot and i'm still slaving away in an office all day everday patiently waiting for it all to fall together. In the meantime i'm still writing although i've been pretty 'unfocused' and my stuff has been REALLY all over the place genre wise. You can check out some stuff at:

www.myspace.com/mayashea

I also FINALLY incorporated and bought my little piece of the web. I haven't had much time so at present it's just a placeholder until...............

I would definitely appreciate any feedback. Please note I am still officially the 'One Woman Band' playing all instruments heard on tracks, writing and singing all parts. It's tough work, but someone's gotta do it. I can't wait for the day to come when i can hire an engineer to 'fix' all this stuff and I can be free to play and sing my a$$ off without having to deal with the technical stuff i have yet to figure out.

Its nice to know you bout to drop soon..and you know its people in here that will lookout for you in the engineering department when you ready..

i will be lookin for the album here in the ND/DC/VA area..keep grindin..and contgrads again
