So should I get a subwoofer?

Should I get a subwoofer with my monitor speakers or not? I ask because I am unsure whether you are meant to mix with a subwoofer or not.

With a subwoofer on surely this can lead to being shy with applying the bass in the mix.

Or am I wrong?

What are you working with now? Do you have problems in the low end? Do you have the proper room treatments?

If not, adding a sub is only going to make things worse...

I wouldn't mix with a sub woofer simply because most of the people playing back the song will not be playing it through a sub. The only time I've used a sub while mixing is in doing a 5.1 mix.

If your asking this question then most likely no. Get one when you definitely have a reason for it.
