Before I found this forum I though my first vocal mic was gonna be a shure sm58 for sure. Now I've hears that the Audix OM2, Sennheiser 609e (I think) and so many others are comparable or in some peoples opinion better. I know all mics can be better for different voices but I'm real short on cash cause of school and looking for a cut and dry answer. I want a top quality mic in this class but want to keep it cheap as possible too. I'm leaning towards the OM2 or sm58. Would I be better off to spend $150 Canadian on a new sm58 or try for $100 Canadian for a used OM2? Thanks for the help. BJ

P.S. Does a Samson R21 mic suck??? And is the sm58-LC different than just an sm58????

Buy a shure sm57 and a foam screen for it. I will last many years and works very well on many sources. It is also less than the others.

An excellent suggestion on the SM57/foam combo, however,
keep an eye out for the Beyer Soundstar MKII.
Warm tone and excellent clarity-smokes a '58 in that regard.

There's one on e-bay right now-not sure if they're shipping to
Canada though.
