So many cabs!

I have need some bands dvds of them recording, and many of them for solos and leads record like 4-12 different cabs at a time.

My question is... will micing each cone on one cab have a similar effect?
Each cones tone is different right?

I would think the only variability that would come into play is the condition of the cone itself. Otherwise, if its at the same distance/angle, shouldn't have much of an impact. Unless the room is that unstable.

I think the main idea behind that is to give them more options come mixdown.

Once you're at the mix stage and you've gotten the magic takes, it's kind of a bitch to realize that you're not thrilled with the amp tone and wish you had used a different one.

It's really just more of a way to cover your bases than anything else.

I think your correct sir. In my experience the first take is usually the best. So you want it covered like chewing gum on a park bench.
