just like the title says....my basement is a mess for recording.
its big, with cement walls, no real cieling (just wires and pipes etc. and some wood beams every foot or so), curves everywhere, as dusty as an attic that hasn't been entered in years, and to top it off it reeks of cat litter.

Tomorrow me and a few friends of mine are coming over to completely re-arrange how we are set up now. We have a ton of carpet - and are prepared to buy some "heat proof" insulation or something of that sort to cover up the long metal vents that are everywhere on the cieling. also we are planning to get some sort of acoustical tiles or something to put on the cieling, hoping that will also cut down on dust.

any ideas for my DIY studio on the tightest budget you've ever seen?

I just bought the sheetrock and insulation to finish out my studio. It is a shop building with an open cieling and open framed walls with just outside siding. It would freeze your ass off in the winter and burn you up in the summer and on top of that...it looked like shit. I didn't have enough money to finish it out until recently. What I did in the meantime was put up up black bisqueen (not sure how to spell that) the thick plastic material you put down before pouring concrete. we tacked it to the rafters and the wall studs and it looked pretty damn good, plus it keep the heat and air in. You can tack it, duct tape it, or hang it like a curtain. The bisqueen we used may have been for lanscaping (i think the type for concrete is clear) My 2 cents on a shoestring budget answer.
